My Beogram 4002 began making some rather odd noises and I felt lubrication and/or belt change was in order.

I ignored my better judgment to stop using this turntable until I could have a look at it and as punishment for my lack of proper concern the 4002 crapped out on me at the end of play. No pickup and no stop after reaching the rest position.  Angry

Opened up the 4002 and everything looked in order until START was pressed…. what a lot of racket this turntable made! Such a lot of fuss over nothing, a tempest in a teapot if ever there was one. The wheel which receives the belt to move the tonearm had come loose and was out of position.

Once back in position and the retaining screw tightened end of problem.

Since I was in there I dropped a bit of lubrication in all the appreciate spots and the 4002 is happy as a clam once again.

FINALLY a simple B&O fix. Hallelujah! Lets have a Party !!!

Good job finding the failure, but you said that you oiled it a little, I really hope that you did some cleaning too, as it was open, if not, I may be a little disappointed.Smile

Hi Søren,

It would be an awful thing to disappoint you, and I sincerely hope I don’t, but I gotta ask, clean what? This is MY turntable so you have to know there is no dust, no debris.

Yes shortly after I first received this turntable I went inside with a paint brush and vacuum being the tidy-freak that I am. Hey, I am clean, what can I tell ya? Embarrassed

Now maybe there is something more serious that you feel needs attention and if so, let me know and I’ll attend to it.

By the way this is my temperamental turntable forever needing adjustments…. which never seemed to end. My Beogram 4004 has never required a single adjustment, just a replaced belt. But the 4002 always had something wrong, pickup or arm drop in the wrong place, arm too heavy then too light. It went on and on for a couple of years.  Devil

Then like a miracle, the last adjustment held and the 4002 has not needed attention since….. at least 3 years. So today’s tiny adjustment seemed like “old times” but in a positive way. The poor old thing needs me…. and we all want to be needed. Smile

Thank you for enlightening me, I will never ask againBig Smile, Your 4002 just wanted to be absolutely sure that i came to a good home, this last failure was just because it was feeling alone, you concentrated and working with your amps and speakers.Whistle

Hi Søren,

For goodness sakes, you can ask me anything, in fact, I wish you would. Who knows what I might be missing? Unsure

It is just I had assumed that folks knew that I am a detail guy. I clean out my computers regularly and I certain do the same when I open up a B&O product, as most are impossibly difficult to get into…. And then back together.

Speaking of which a 1” square clear plastic piece fell out of my Beomaster 4400 when I opened it up. Any idea where it is supposed to go?  Confused

As for the Beogram 4002 feeling neglected, I suspect that you are right. All the other pieces were getting the attention and the Beogram felt neglected and perhaps unloved.

Perhaps it is aware it is not my favorite Beogram, but it most certainly isn’t my least favorite. That distinction rests with my Beogram 1602, which does nothing wrong, but just isn’t in the same league with the others. For the record my next least favored Beogram is the 8000, but its mine, and I cobbled it together from two 8000’s.

In any case now both Beomaster 2400 and its buddy, the Beogram 4002 are clean inside and out, and working well.

I wont ask about cleaning but everything else. The plastic piece goes below the cables, protecting cables for solder point damages, it was originally glued to the PCB solder points, its a *** to get in place again and if not glued it will fall out again.

I will do my best to take care of this, but may I assume, my electronic maven friend, that this protection is not essential to am amp sitting quietly in my dining room?

Well it was put there for a reason, and cables tends to move a little when getting hot and cold. If the cables are running free of the PCB nothing happens now, but who knows in 10 years from now,

The 1" by1" square plastic piece is glued to the upper side of the power switch metal housing,
This housing sits very near solder joints on the above board and can short to these if the power switch is pressed very hard.

Add a drop of glue to it and push it back in between the power switch and the board.

Thank you Martin, I found the piece loose under the cables at the red arrow, when I took the transformer out, and it fits exactly in there. A lot easier to get it back where it belongsSmile

Thank you Martin,

I will put the plastic piece back where it is supposed to be thus averting disaster. Mine just feel out when I was inspecting the Beomaster 4400 and turned it over.
