I guess it depends entirely on which numbers you look at.
"The revenue in the Bang & Olufsen business unit declined by 1 per cent"

Sure.
I was looking on the consolidated numbers.
Ebit have increased from 18 MDKK to 50 MDKK, and that is a good thing.
Revenue increased 10 % compared to 3rd quarter.
Play is evidently driving the business forward. As you say, B&O business is flat lining and according to what was said in the webcast it will continue to be that way until the transformation of the retail network has been completed.
This is good news. At the end of the day whether you are in the luxury business or the commodity business, the goal is to make money. B&O are proving that you can go from a high-touch and exotic luxury product line where you lose money, to a more realistic one where you produce and distribute at the lowest possible cost to a style-value consumer, and you can return a profit. Only then can you reward those people who have invested their hard-earned money, like Sparkle, the Bang and Olufsen trust-funders, and institutional investers in the company. BeoPlay, LG, HP, and Samsung/Harmon are proving that B&O is a brand, and product is a platform for it and a great place to plant the sticker.
As long as the relatively small investment in research and development, customer service, internet chat boards, celebrity employees, and software repair is more than covered by producing in areas with low labor and utilizing modular products, the true customers of B&O will finally benefit.

At what price your soul?
Ban boring signatures!
Puncher: At what price your soul?
1. "Each man has his price, Bob, and yours was pretty low." Roger Waters (Amused to Death)
2. Denmark is 80% non-religious so the concept of soul, real or metaphorically, is probably irrelevant.

Fair point, I'll substitute Integrity for soul.
For me, the key numbers are "Cash Flow" and "Available Free Cash"
Most company's fail due to the fact they run out of cash even with rising revenues
Regards Keith....

That might just be filed under the fake news segment! Despite having a choice 75,9 % of the Danish population contributes to the Protestant Lutheran Church every year.

Or is it? (Peter Griffin) I for one believe this particular company did lose its soul.

Hi there,
I am usually looking at one thing in the reports: new product launches or some kind of teaser.
I see nothing in this report .. the last product I bought from B&O is my BV7-40, nothing in the current range attracts me! And the prices for the speakers have gone stellar, except for the BeoPlay range. Actually the only next purchase I'm considering is the open-source BeoCreate/Raspberry amplifier/DSP when/if they make something for the Pentas.

Part that I like a lot is ten devices planned to be Airplay2 compatible. Maybe it will allow me to somehow enjoy Apple Music & Siri without the need for Homepod.
If some of the brand equity comes from having credible halo products which Beoplay buyers aspire to and associate with their on-line purchases the investment in B&O speakers and TVs(?) need to continue.
The Eclipse and the Horizon suggest that the brand value does not come from TVs any more but I was told that profit came from customers upgrading the speakers on their Beovisions.
Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1
It's worth listening to the podcast to get a better feel for the report and the company direction. China and partnerships rather than a company based in Denmark making products. Voice activation is coming so the tactile qualities become even less important. This fits in with the future retail plan of fewer shops and products bought on-line from images.
That's cheered me up even more - Thanks!
It's interesting to see elsewhere on the sits that the head of Beoplay was moved to Home and replaced then he left in January. Has Sonos etc made Home a bit of history having been the B&O USP ?
It reminds me of Porsche doing the Cayenne and being highly successful amongst people who never realised it had been a sportscar maker.

BeoNut since '75
Hello Elephant
I'm sorry if my posts made you feel despondent. 'not my plan in trying to work out where the company is going. The B&O term "Home" was surely the department that link systems that came from? In the world of blue teeth this is no longer the magic it was.
The most positive thing is that the company is changing in order to survive and hopefully keeping the expensive speakers. The connection from Beoplay to the big speakers however doesn't exist in the way that the Century led to the other B&O audio visual products in the nineties. Perhaps they can get back to that and people are progressing from the Beolit to the Beosound One?
I totally dislike voice activation as opposed to using a finger. And why on Earth are people so willing to have always on microphones in their properties, with Google and the like endlessly sweeping up data? ( They are tracking everything, even if you think you've turned things off. How many times do people get an advert for something just mentioned in conversation?)
B&O desperately need a new USP. The days of skilfully hiding CRT's are gone. Bigger TV screens have less need or possibilities for motorised stands.
A focus on speakers going forward?
Graham
I agree with respect to voice completely - what is interesting to me is that its suddenly gone centre stage yet i don't know any of my peer group (40-45 yrs old) who like it. But the industry will continue to push it, and hopefully at the minimum it will be more reliable by the time we are forced to use it.
The issues B&O face are similar to many other hardware makers - only the ones who control an ecosystem or have ecosystem leverage have a good chance of succeeding. B&O are not insensitive to these and other trends, be it the relative success of Play or the upcoming move to build in voice integration.
Where that leaves the main brand and halo products is anyones guess. The conversion rate of Play customers to the main brand is virtually zero, whereas they hoped it would be 20-30%. Not a surprise to me, but may inform the company current thinking.
"B&O desperately need a new USP..

speakers that move forward would be unique!
the comment about verbal exchanges being harvested in the home sounds quite Orwellian. Is this a fact Graham?

Just examples. And yes, it is Orwellian.
And the police are already trying to use this information
