also the speaker then dous not always turn off when i push the on off button.

already contacted b&o they just say send it back , but i can not send it back cous i dont have a bill of the speaker. this was a package deal

I assume you know that to enter pairing mode, you need to long-press the Bluetooth button – short press wouldn't do it (I'm speculating here that the red light means there's no device paired). The same goes with turning off the speaker – you need to hold down the power button for a few seconds.

In my personal experience of sending in a set of defective H3 last year and getting a replacement, I only needed to provide a serial number and a purchase date which the online system didn't verify in any way as far as I can tell. If the A1 is indeed defective, it might be worth a shot to try that.

The serial number is located underneath the aluminium cover.

Where did you buy this from, any chance it was made during the night shift at the Chinese factory???

Do you have any kind of email/printed stuff that mentions the A1 at all like a dispatch note, order confirmation that mentions the A1 being bundled in etc?

i do not have this as it was bought with a promotional display for the showroom

this gous true a different company and billing also only thing i get is a final bill at the end of the month

also i can not ask that promo company as they buy in bulk

b&o has the serial number and purshase date , they also know about this promotion and the display still they wont budge without the original bill of the a1

Just a maybe stupid question:

Did you charge your A1 via the USB-C cable and iPhone(etc.) charger? Maybe the battery is empty.

Is it possible that your speaker has been used and paired before?

If so, try this:

To remove all paired Bluetooth devices and settings, press and hold the Bluetooth and power buttons simultaneously until the product indicator turns from red to white.

Hope this helps.

For the record, here is the legend of what the different lights on the A1 mean.

Do you hear a startup tune ("bop bop") when you turn on the speaker?

A bit off-topic, but fits in well here.

Has anyone tried to put the A1 (one or even two) in retail/store mode?

I could imagine, that it/they this way could be used as speakers connected to an audiosystem or even to a tv.

Anyone, who knows more???

I guess running in store mode may require POS software ...?

Bang & Olufsen

Enabling the retail mode in our B&O PLAY products enhances the consumer experience. This ensures that the B&O PLAY POS speakers are always powered on, the speakers are set to maximum volume and have disabled Bluetooth.

THE SPECIFIC ADVNTAGES OF THE RETAIL MODE

The retail mode will have the following advantages on the speaker:

• If the speaker is powered via the POS display, the speaker will not turn off/go into idle mode. The speaker will automatically turn off if power is disconnected to the display. When the power is reconnected, the speaker will automatically turn on.

• The Bluetooth function will be disabled so that the speaker always works optimal with the music from the display

• All buttons on the speaker are disabled. This ensures that the speaker will always work optimal with the display

• The speaker will be set at maximum volume to ensure the most impressive demo experience. The user can adjust volume on the display.

And what is POS software?

Not knowing exactly what is meant, when using this mode in the store, my guess is that the speakers are connected to a (central) sound source.

And that this is used to control the volume of the device/the A1.

Just wondering if that could be (mis-)used for connecting to an audiosystem at home....in order to control the volume from there.

If noone here knows more, I guess I’ll have to ask my dealer next time I’ll be there.

As far as I understand it a POS terminal could be a computer or tablet, such as an iPad.

Why not just try it?

I guess there's a secret button pressing procedure to enable/disable POS mode on the speaker?

Sounds very interesting and hopefully somebody here can solve the riddle for us.

More complicated than thought but very nice for fixed installations like in the bathroom... Wink

Jessy, wait with the bin ... try THIS first:

For A1 insert the following identifier code: A1_ sw5.0.6_ShopMode_V2

If necessary - I don't know.

If it doesn't work, hopefully it will, try this next:

For reversal of store mode: Please send an email to: POSDisplays@bang-olufsen.dk

Just tell them you bought this speaker (with serial number) which may have been set to retail mode before, because bluetooth isn't working/not enabled.

Update for the latest firmware, what you have done, is necessary anyway for being able to to reverse the store mode.

Keeping fingers crossedWink

MM,

having some time to look over it again, is the first of May a holiday day off too where you live?

I doubt it will work.

A speaker set to retail mode could be controlled by a POS terminal, such as a computer or tablet, running POS software. So far.

But connecting another audio system or a TV will not work, I guess.

Any other system, for getting access to it, would need to be implemented into the POS software by a script written before.

Just my thoughts,

Ulrike

@jessy

Don’t give up!

How about trying to use it ‘in retail mode’.

Connect it to the power outlet with the supplied cable.

Connect an audio source e.g. a mobile phone to the line-in of it.

Control the volume via the connected device.

Try to disconnect it from the power and see, if it goes into standby.

What happens?

If this works, you will know that it was set up to store mode.

If this is right, just follow the infos, that Ulrike posted: how to reverse the store mode.

You might be right - or maybe a dedicated POS sw is not needed.

That - exactly - is, what I want to find out.

I’ve send a request to the POSDisplay-team of B&O and will also consult my dealer, once I get to him.

Using our own A1 for a test, could be an idea.

But I am pretty sure, that my wife won’t be as excited as I am about ‘mis-using’ it.

(Maybe, if jessy does the experiment - as I suggested in my recent posting - we will know more).

P.S. Yes, here is a ‘day off’ today, but ten minutes from here (in DK) the poor people are doomed to work....

....at least untill noon, some of them ——— my wife being one of those ;-(

Hmm ... but without it I cannot imagine a way for connecting such a  bluetooth speaker to another audio or TV system...?

Anyway I'm curious, so I'm looking forward to your results.

In that case it is NOT a blutooth speaker - it is just a speaker with a line-in port.........a USB-port and a firmware ;-)

Of course, you are right!

(But wouldn't a TV or audio system need that firmware too for connecting?)

So let's wait and see, thank you for your efforts Thumbs Up

Jessy,

you can try this again:

To remove all paired Bluetooth devices and settings, press and hold the Bluetooth and power buttons simultaneously until the A1 product indicator turns from red to white.

After that delete all bluetooth connections in your phone's settings.

Reboot your phone and try pairing again - maybe it works.
