Hi guys,

So the other day I managed to score a brand new unused Beolab 3500 for £250 and for that price I had to have it. It also came with a 15 meter master link cable.

We're currently refurbishing and have knocked through our dinning and kitchen to make a large open plan family area and my intention is to move my Ouverture from my bedroom and install it in our new open plan living/dinning/kitchen room. Mainly because I think the design is very attractive and it really does deserve to be displayed.

I don't have any speakers with the Ouverture in my bedroom and I just used it with headphones in bed for now.

My aim is to set up the Ouverture and BL 3500 speaker for operation in the same room, the 3500 is going to go directly above the Ouverture (wall mounted) which will be on a small side table next to the sofa.

From the BL 3500 manual I see that the speaker needs to be placed in Option 4, but what mode will the Ouverture need to be put into in order for the IR signals to just go through and control to the 3500? Does anyone happen to know this command?

Also to confirm there will be no other speakers other than the 3500 hooked into the Ouverture.

Many thanks

Ryan

any help would be appreciated. I've heard that the Ouverture should automatically know that it only has one speaker hooked into it, but I'm not 100% sure if this is the case.

What you are aiming at, is to use the Ouverture and a link speaker in the same room.

A bit odd, but not really a problem.

Put the Ouverture in Option 0 and leave the BL3500 as default/Option 6.

Now all (yes all!) controlling will go through the 3500 using the remote control/Beo4.

This means using the controls on the Ouverture will not start playback on the 3500.

However, once playback is already started, you can change tracks, stations there (but not volume).

When the system is in standby and you touch the mute-button on the 3500, the Radio will start playing - you can also use this button to turn off the aystem.

P.S. In your case, you should get a (much) shorter ML cable - see also page 20 in the User Guide for mounting of the cable.

how will I be able to turn volume up on the unit?  Is it not going to work at all?

Also I just found the manual online for the 3500 and it says to put the BeoLab in  option 4 mode for use in the same room, so I’m confused lol.

It says use option 4 on the BeoLab if you intend to use the speaker in the same room, would this work better

If changing between options is easy enough, you might as well just experiment and see which options work best for you?

Thanks Jon, a list of options for the Ouverture would be beneficial as I’m not sure what each of them do on the Ouverture. It doesn’t list this in the manual.

Ah yeah that's fair! Could you maybe email your closest B&O dealer and ask if they have a list/the documentation you need?

Hi,

Option '4' is only needed if you have speakers connected to the Ouverture (or any other music System) _and_ also have a link speaker in the same room.

As you don't have speakers connected via the powerlink connection go as Millemissen told you.

How does volume work, apparently volume can’t be adjusted, but why?

the Beolab 3500 /LCS9000 can only be controlled by a remote, except 'Mute' / 'Power on/off' and Timer Function!

The Beolab 2000 is the only link speaker that has a local control built in for Volume, Mute / Power, Timer, Radio, CD and Tape (later version offers TV instead of Tape).

Both can control a Beocenter/-System via the Beolink 1000 / 5000 / 7000, Beo 4, Beo 5 and Beo 6 remote control.

Yes but the other poster said volume won’t be able to adjusted. I have a Beo4 and Bl 1000 or did he mean volume won’t be adjusted on the Ouverture buttons itself?

if you use the BL3500 in he configuration you want, the Ouverture has to be set to Audio Option 0 and the BL3500 to Option 6.

This way the Oueverture doesn't react to the IR. Only local operation at the Ouverture would be possible.

The volume keys on the Ouverture are only effective on the speakers connected to the powerlink connectors but as there are no speakers connected they are without an audible function.

The BL3500 is the only active IR receiver in your complete setup. Every IR command is processed in the BL3500 and forwarded to the master if necessary (i.e.: select 'radio' and then station '5' or 'CD' and then 'next track')

Yes indeed the latter.....this is what I wrote:
