Are they rattlesnake with silver toes and heels? Those are hard to pull off well no matter how many cattle you have unless you're a rock and roll star.
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Pointy toed boots like that are good for killing cockroaches in the corners. And kicking rats, I had a friend who was attacked by a rat at a strip club bathroom once. Fortunately he had his boots on. As you might imagine, far from the classiest club around.
Duels: Simonbeo: I agree that one reason to buy from a store is the expectation that some of the mark-up is earned by them ensuring it'll be up to date and working. I'd assume the same from Beoplay if they pocket that markup and spend a fraction of it on posting a ready to use H9i . I imagine the packaging should be designed so that it doesn't look like it's been a returned product when the headphones have been taken out and put back in! Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8 , MX 5500 . Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3. That should be easy for a dealer.....”enjoy your new headphones Sir/Madam. Before you leave would you like us to ensure you have the very latest software updates? If not it’s quite straightforward to do at home. Whichever you prefer.”

She's probably referring to the customers. But a club next to a military base that's next to a huge test range out in the middle of nowhere...well, Danger Will Robinson. It was the kind of club where when you walked in the bouncer would ask you if you had a knife. If you said no, he'd hand you his and say here, take this, you'll probably need it. I only was in there once, that was more than enough.
And on US Mothers' Day, the brothers fought like cats and dogs before finding a rat around which they could both wrap their teeth.
B&O products have been released with half-assed software programs for a long time. I remember the 1999 fear over the 2000 shift where every person in every company was hiring "programmers" to avoid Y2K misery which, of course, never happened. Then we got to pay them again for all the BS patches they put in our system which focused on effect vs cause, and (of course) had no documentation. Nearly 20 years later B&O and it's ilk continue to do the same thing by hiring contract "coders" instead of engineers, with the result being new problems requiring new patches and new adverse consequences.
The bad news for dealers (a vanishing species except for the ones in protection in the zoo (aka flagship stores)) is they have to eat the product for credit (money out of pocket) for replacement, while Amazon takes it back and the distributor claims agains B&O. Wonder why dealers struggle with that?
A lady at the gym asked me about ANR earpieces and, sadly, all I could recommend is go to Amazon, set a price target, and read the stars and reviews. If crap, send it back.

Quite a Dickensian opening poodleboy! I love it.
You're quite right, coders without systems engineers and systems test engineers over them are a huge disaster waiting to happen. In my experience the majority of coders have way overinflated opinions of their own competence and inability to code errors. Systems engineering has a function, precisely define the requirements, specify test cases, prepare thorough test plans and procedures to test to the requirements, and make sure the tests are done and documented properly. Even in a commercial environment this can and should be done, albeit not as rigorously as in building airplanes or such. Still, we see what happens without it.
I do remember a funny Dilbert, the company said they're going to start paying the software engineers for every bug they find, that's right, the same people who coded it in the first place. Wally walks away saying, I'm going to code me a Cadillac! Dilbert is the kind of comic strip that tends to make you laugh until you really cry because you realize it's very accurate.
Steph71: For a premium pair of headphones costing €500, these are not problems I would have expected to be having. Sure, they sound great, when you can actually listen to them, but these should never have made it through QC.

I know it doesn't help, but I've had various BeoPlay headphones (still have my H8's) and I bought a pair of Beats on-ear the other day and haven't looked back - decent volume, connect instantly, no drop-outs, nothing.
Sometimes I think we just buy B&O assuming as it's B&O it's "top quality' and then wonder why we have issues and can't understand why we have issues. Sadly as I've found, there are better products out there if you simply widen your view of the market.

I think that's called Struer Syndrome, somewhat related to Stockholm Syndrome.
Steph, I can imagine it is disappointing to have to return a 1 day old product. Well it happens, hope that the replacement unit plays well. I was personally too annoyed by both H8 (constant and endless BT dropouts) and H5 (dropouts plus earplug fit issue), so I went for the AirPods. Delighted amd use them regularly, zero issue.
However: B&O sound quality is far superior, by a wide margin vs say AirPods... ...bear that in mind. If you get them to work you’re in a good place. ;)

I'm really happy with my Airpods. I'd say the B&O sound is superior by about 25-50%, but the Airpods just 'work'.
I've never, ever had an issue with them - and that's paramount to me. I love things that just.. work.
Could you imagine a product that worked flawlessly and looked and sounded as good as B&O? Yep. That should quite simply be "B&O".

That's a classic one Duels. If you want a glimpse in the world I lived in, watch the old movie "The Pentagon Wars" about the development and testing of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. There's more truth in that than there should be.
Another Dilbert I liked was the one where they described their Quality program as Qualicide.
joeyboygolf: The purchaser should not need to upgrade software "out of the box", the dealer should do that prior to sale. These are expensive headphones and should work on receipt.

I would not have my dealer open up a sealed fancy new box, fiddle with my expensive headphones before I get to unpack them first.
If the SW that is in the headphones when they are bought, has major faults, this is B&O that has released a batch with defective SW, and this will be fixed by upgrading to the latest sw, which again, unfortunately can contain new bugs.
Off course, if you ask your dealer, he will off course update to the latest SW before handing them over to you, but a lot of the coolness with buying stuff, is also to get to open the sealed box at home :)

I no longer buy any B&O. I do not understand why the contributors to this forum can contemplate paying thousands of pounds for a TV that does not work as specified or hundreds of pounds for a pair of headphones that don't work!
Yes, there are bugs in all software driven systems but they should only be apparent when working at the extreme limits of the specification and not when using basic functions. What happened to their QA department or beta testing?
If they cannot produce bug free software for a pair of headphones there is no future for the company!
Regards Graham

Meanwhile, away from Beo-land, this is what others think of the H8i (I'm not sure how much better the H9i's are meant to be). It is that poor that they can't even play the "it's nice, but too expensive" card!
As so often...more threads on the same subject.

Why not have a look/a listen at the H4’s?
I love mine.....
....and use them ‘out of the box’, never thought of sw or updates - and they work fine wirelessly.
Michael:Been away from this community for some time mainly due to all the nitpicking between people over nothing....,,, And then just a big fight about bugs and software for pages and pages... so unnecessary. However, there is a lot of software that contains very few bugs or no bugs at all. ......
Any members get invited to Prince Harry's Stag Weekend? Any good stories?
I’m sick and tired about this product, my (ex) girlfriend give it to me for 2018 Christmas, and since day one I have the same issues ...
at first, I though, it was my fault, maybe I doing something wrong.... but by the time, and reading this forum and re-edit etc... I realize what it’s the problem.
no way with this, I can’t stay in my couch and the end of the day playing music relaxed..... well, I can, but no vía bluetooth....
i discover ver this forum yesterday.... I saw the videos on YouTube and try “ I For Beoplay H9i : To disable the automatic play/pause function, move the switch to the top position and hold for 2 seconds until the indicator light flashes blue. Then, double tap the center of touchpad on the right headphone and the indicator light will turn red.“ to switch off the proximitiy sensor and my problem will solved.... it doesn’t work on my device
curiosly it hardly ever happens when I walk ...
yesterday I throw it to the floor of impotence. The diamen crashed a little.... I don’t matter... I don’t want to use it anymore
Typical
I got one (H9i) as a present 2 weeks ago. I’ve used it on several occasions for hours.
No problems whatsoever.
I use it with my iPhone 6S with only BT. My H9i has software 5.0.1 if I remember correctly.
That is the same software as the H9 mk3, isn’t it?
With or without using ANC gives a noticeable difference in sound. But what a calm silence you get at the background of the music.
BTW, I like the gadget of pausing the music when taking the headphone off.
