Hi

I need to change the battery on this unit as each time it is turned off it looses everything bass treble etc...

Already rebuild the glass with new double face tape, 3 hours job just to clean old tape, anyone has a miracle tape remover. Tried all I had but it takes lots of soaking time as I did not want to remove any paint and have more work but I have a perfect result like factory new.

Anyway to remove the battery any advise so I do not get in trouble with asking for a code or else.

regards

Would it asking a code bring you in trouble?

Hi Martin

Have no idea, do not even know if it would bring up a code !!!

If there is a code, I just got it on the bay so I can ask seller if he has it but most of the time they do not know, because B&O took care of the installation, because they have no idea where are the paper work etc....

I bought it because one channel was not working anymore and just had to resolder the female plugs on the PCB and the right chanel was back.

But after installation in my setup then I found out with the penta's that each time bass where adjusted it comes back as original when turned off.

So if there is a code I can care before soldering a new one, if there is not such option then I just change the battery without caring.

It always has been at B&O that they care about electricity economy so it must be why it is totally shutdown and it is a little battery that keeps it running the memory.

They always have been in advance hope it stays that way, but not shure.

We had a thread about this repair just a couple of days ago;

Hi Martin

Thank you for the link, I printed the service manual, it looks like we can just unsolder and replace.

Will let you know how it went after ordering the battery and the job is done.

OK unscrewed the battery box and took off top and bottom plate.

Measuring battery voltage shows 3 volts, so it cannot be the battery.

I could be wrong but aren't these batteries rechargeable? Perhaps it doesn't hold the charge?  Either way, simple to replace so worth doing to rule that out.

They are not rechargeable. It is an ordinary Lithium button battery but with solder tags to enable mounting and connection directly on the pcb.

IIRC it is a type 2032 size but with solder tags to enable it to be mounted horizontally.

Thanks Graham - I think when I replaced the battery in my mother-in-law's BC9500 it took a while for it to start working properly again.  Probably just the microprocessor sorting itself out!

This thread suggest that the BM4500 has the same battery as the BC9500, a CR2450: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/35472.aspx?PageIndex=6

I suppose that may be the same size as a 2032.

Good evening everyone

They are lithium battery  and the battery is 3 volts CR2450 it's what I found in it.

I have done some thinking, if the battery is 3 volts this means that the battery has been replaced and very recently otherwise if it would have been the original battery I would not have found 3 volts.

So for me the battery has been replaced and the reset procedure stated in the service manual has not been done.

Martin or anyone else that passes by, could you confirm my thoughts....

I also wanted to check if the 3v battery was supplying the 3v where it should but was not able to locate B1 on the diagram in the service manual.
The service manual I have is a poor quality downloaded copy with you know guys the one that puts kind of a Beocolectors.... accross it, that is always where it should not be.

I am shure I have a B&O original service manual, but until know I have not been able to put my hands on since I moved. But they are somewhere in a moving box.

The 3V battery should measure around 3.2v to be in good condition.

I would change the battery before doing anything else. It is most likely that the battery is the cause here, and before doing a lot of trouble shooting and spending a lot of time, just change the battery.

If it shows CODE in the display after the change, then there is threads that shows how to get rid of it. And if the FM indicator is off a bit, the service manual tells how to adjust this. it is quite easy.

Just change the battery and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi Weebyx

Thank you for your advice, battery is ordered but it will take a little time to receive.

I have found B1 on the service manual and wanted to be Shure that power was reaching the IC and I have found 2.7 volts on pin 8.

The philips pcf8583 needs minimum 2.5 volts to work so technically w e are ok but Strange things can happen in the electronic world.
