Hi,

I have tried searching for this but unable to find if its been asked before. I have a Shape which I intend to install myself. The issue I have is with the power source for the Core which comes with a USB C adapter. In the install video's its shown as being cable tied to the star rails along with the primary power source for the amp. I think it looks very messy. I am having my kitchen totally renovated in a few months time where the Shape will be a key feature. My electrician is coming next week to agree where various power sockets will go including the one for the Shape.

My question - Wouldn't a cleaner solution be to have him chase the wall and fit a 3 pin power socket with an integral USB port. I have these in my study and charge all my USB devices.  USB C cables with standard USB and micro USB connectors are easy and cheap to acquire. The power from the USB socket is exactly the same as that shown on the bulky USB C adapter provided with the core and it would look neat and tidy.

Am I missing something???

Thanks

Traditional USB-A sockets are pretty tightly specced to operate at 5 V with 0,5–1 A current (sometimes a bit more). USB-C, on the other hand, can use different supply voltages and currents (hence it being able to supply 87 W of power to a 15-inch MacBook Pro, for example).

Have you actually checked the specs of the Core power adapter? If the voltage and current supplied by the proposed USB socket match or exceed those, then I personally see no issue there.

Thanks very much for your swift reply. Looking at the adapter supplied with the Core it shows: 5.0V - 3.0A. The power socket I'm looking at shows 5V - 3.1A  -- Virtually identical. Its such a simple solution and must be better than trying to cable tie the adapter and the power lead for the Amp to the star rail.

Will see if anyonle else chimes in.

Thanks again

In the Shape thread you can see that people are placing a multi power socket in a empty tile : one power cable for the whole Shape, I think that could solve your problem.

Thanks I hadn't found that particular discussion. I would like to see a photo of that as I had presumed there wouldn't be enough depth between the wall and tile as I haven't unboxed mine yet.  Perhaps they didnt want to go to the fuss of chasing out the wall for an electrical socket/USB. In my case the whole kitchen is being ripped out so this would be a minor addition!!

Thanks again.
