Hi all,
we would like to buy a new tv for our living room in the new flat, as viewing distance will increase. Viewing distance will then be around 6 meters/19,7 feets, instead of 3,5 meters/11,5 feets.
At the moment we have a 40" Samsung LED and we're satisfied with picture quality, but we want something that fits more to BS9000, BL6000, BL11 and the Struer Design cabinet nearby and of course has the same or better picture quality. The new one should be 55" to 60" in size.
A B&O TV of this size is not an option, as we want a new TV and our budget is max. 2500€.
A tv that comes close to what we're looking for design wise is this one. What I like is the thin frame in brushed metal like optic. Of course wall mounted and not using the stand. Controlling the tv via Beo4 won't be a problem, as I will use a lintronic -238 box for the job.
Which TV would you recommend and should it be LED or Plasma ?

I wouldn't really go on individual recommendations (except perhaps for reliability & customer service) as opinions on such things as design & picture quality are very subjective especially from those who have paid out hard earned cash for a product and may not want to admit a buying error.
Better IMO to read reviews by the technical sites/magazines. Although they too are subjective, I believe they can be more objective than personal owners may be.
Of course there are dealers/professionals on this forum whose advice is worthy of note.
Finally, just to add to your Samsung, the newly announced 2012 Panasonic range (LCD & Plasma models) seem very impressive.
As I'm in the market for a new set to replace my Beovision 3 (what a beautiful TV) and now I find myself priced out of the Beovision range, I'd be interested in the comments of others.
I think Loewe ist a good choice? The Individual Series is impressive and i think compatible to B&O Speakers? But of course more than you want to pay. If you are interested in German Technology you can also take a look at the new Metz Primus 55 3D. http://www.metz.de/en/television/tv-product-ranges/metz-primus.html.
But of course no Samsung, Loewe or Metz looks like a B&O Television.

Interesting picture association with each of their TV models ... I am not sure I would differentiate between models based on whether I was a pianist, wore an engagement ring, enjoyed red wine, or assembled model cars !!!!

Loewe is something I like very much and is comparable to B&O, but sadly it is out of price range.
What I really don't like anymore are those thick frames around the panel, which is the same with the Pana and the Metz televisions smccwein recommended.
My current Samsung has this thick frame around the panel too, the one my parents got, has a thin frame, which looks much better and more filigrane to me.
Do all Plasma screens have these thick frames or are there sets around with a thin frame ?
I think I will have a look at some shops at the weekend to find out what suits our needs best.
Not sure a look around the shops will help except of course with appearance & design. You'd be seeing all the models in a very artificial environment with shop lighting etc, making it very difficult to decide which you like. They'd all probably be showing some fantastic HD DVD which looks great on most if not all TVs which is OK if that's all you watch. Also, the way each has been set up with their individual menu picture settings, might mean that the one with the 'best' potential picture quality has been poorly setup making any viewing decision hopeless and irrelevant.
Finally what if the shops you choose don't have the latest models in stock or a good selection of others? The one that is just right for your needs may not even be there!
Advice. Do your research on what you want. Screen size, number of inputs, sound, appearance, web connectivity (if that's what you want) and Manufacturers along with other requirements YOU want from a set.
Draw up a short list, find the shops that have these and view JUST THEM. Don't be diverted to other ones which just happen to look good in the shop. That's how many buyers of cars have gone in to a showroom wanting a 4 seater saloon with auto transmission and come out having bought a flashy 2- seater manual sports coupe !
Of course we already have some favourite televisons sorted out, so we will not go out to the shops without an idea of what we would like to have.
Visiting the shops is mainly for seeing it in the flesh and talking about prices.
Given that the mainstream manufacturers have been steadily reducing quality,and quality control,to meet the general public's demand for ever lower prices one would be advised to buy a new TV with great care,and to buy from a retailer with a known track record for good after sales service.
Have a look at the relevent LCD/LED,and Plasma,sections under the Home Cinema/Video Electronics headings at www.avforums.com to get a flavour of the problems people have been experiencing with major brands.

If you sell enough there will always be a good number of people with complaints - the difference is you don't see the 10's of thousands of satisfied customers posting on those sites to add a level of perspective.
I prefer plasma to LCD (at least I did at the time I bought my Panny 2 years ago, I haven't compared current models). I notice Samsung do metal surround plasmas as well as the LCD sets, my mindset of 2 years ago says the Panasonic plasmas were better but that could have changed, and in any case the differences are probably so small that your preference for a metal surround might sway the decision from Panasonic to Samsung anyway.
Compare the TV's and make your own choice, after all it's you that lives with it everyday. Don't be swayed by folk telling you it's either too big or not big enough or that it's not B&O.

A lot of test, only in german, but with lots of pictures etc.
Look at the Panasonic TC-P65 plasma. Thin 65" with a very beautiful picture. Looks like an LCD or even a thick LED size TV. I think it is just over an inch thick. Plasma tv's weigh more and consume more but what a picture this one has.

Hi Rick, I had a look at that one and is a great model. Well priced too. Will be super ceded soon and production will be taken out of Japan.
Also condsider the new panasonic gt50 and also there new led tv range the et5 the et50 and the higher end models above look really nice.

At moment I'm at the point that I will wait for the new Pana VT50 series to arrive in shops in germany.
They look most promissing to me and should be in the price range I'm looking for.

Yeah Robert, it's the VT50 series I mean. These new TVs look really amazing. From the first impression they come close to the design B&O makes.
I`d like to know if you use with the BeoSound the same speakers as with your TV (Beosound intergrated).
Which center would you choose with your "non B&O".
I`m also looking for a telly to replace my BV8-40.
Is it possible to control the Panasonic VT50 with the Beo4? Also the built-in DVB-C tuner? What do I need to be able to do this?

Don't have the latest models, but I had a setup with a Pansonic plasma and an AV7000. After some trial and error and working with the tech support folks, I got a Harmony universal remote to talk to the B&O. Sort of. It was kludgy, and problematic as the plasma IR output jammed the B&O on bright screens with a lot of white on them. Really frustrating.
Never got the Beo4 to do this, never even really tried, although the Panasonic could allegedly be controled via the AV7000's IR blasters.
I'd be concerned about the same jamming with any plasma unless things have changed.

Yes, this is what I will do. I already have a Lintronic box (-238) for my current Samsung LED and I will buy another -238 as I will keep the Samsung TV with an external DVB-S receiver in another room.
In my opinion the -238 is the best solution you can get for money. As far as I know the Pana VT50 can be controlled via RS-232. You can put the -238 on the RS-232 and use the plasma protected B&O ir-eye for receiving Beo4/5/6 ir signals. With the -238 it's possible to use all commands of the original remote, but of cause you have to program it.

I think I won't integrate the BS9000 and speakers into a complete AV setup in the beginning. It depends on how good the speakers of the VT50 series are and how easy it would be to connect the Pana to BS9000. I don't need surround sound, so an easy 2.1 setup would be enough for me.
The Panasonic VT50 will be available in Germany in April, May or June.
If using a Lintronic box you can control the complete TV

But you can be sure, that the hardcore Apple fans will buy a new AppleTV every year - like they buy new iPads, iPhones
As the new Pana VT50 series will not be available until the end of april beginning of may we have to wait though.

do you have any further information regarding the new entry BeoVision? There are only rumors + there is not a single picture till now available.
I do wish someone or perhaps more than one, would at least leak some details of the new 'lower priced' set, eg; price, screen size(s). I'm in the market to upgrade and will wait and see what B&O produce if I could have at least some info'.
If it's to be, for example, available in only 32" & 37" then there's no point in me waiting as they're too small. It's surely in B&O's interests to generate some hope and expectation rather than the nothing we have now.
I would buy it if it's a 55" screen size with a nice frame and reduced to dvb-s, masterlink, powerlink, puc and a simple integrated speaker and that for under 3000€.
I don't need internet, dnla, wireless and such things at all.
Some info on the new tv would be appreciated here too.
