Hi,

I have a problem with my Essence MkII. After approx. 1 week of working, the Essence is no longer reachable from the Beo App. It doesn't respond anymore to selection made in the app, nor does it respond to commands given via the IR eye.

The only thing that works at that moment is to unplug the Essence, and to reboot it. Unfortunately the Essenced is hidden high up in a closet in a the kitchen, so rebooting is somewhat cumbersome. This is driving my wife crazy, as she usually is the one being faced with the unresponsive Essence....

Any suggestions what can be done to resolve this? The Essence is on the latest firmware, and is connected wirelessly to the network. The  quality of the network connection is marked as 'excellent', and the logfile does not give any special messages that something is wrong.

I don't have this issue with the A6 in the bedroom.

All help and tips are more than welcome!

Try adding a fixed ip through your router. I had some similar problems but wired. Do no try through the app but configure in your router.

So set a fixed IP restart the Essence MKII.

Hope it helps.

Im running 2 x Mk2 Essence and an A6 via an iPad mini. Until recently, I also had the NL/ML Converter to the BS5.

Had a few commas glitches which could be solved by powering down and up again. My personal thoughts was the A6 was interfering with one of the Essences. Office Essence all good, Bedroom 1 Essence problematic and hung.

Problem was solved when I switched ISP provider and new modem/router (even though on LAN/PowerLAN). Did a hard reset on WiFi across all 3 devices and not an issue since.

Yes indeed. Do you think microwaves interfere with WiFi?

If so, I can revert to a Powerline setup. As I am not a network specialist I am a bit cautious to go for Fixed IP

Yes, they can, especially if it's some "no name" crap. Wink

No name crap is easily solved look in the beolink app which IP it has. Note it and look in your router and write down the MAC address. I have Multiple cores and Essence MKII and now it runs ok, no hikups anymore. But again wired.

If you are so worried you just drop it again to DHCP if it does not work, no harm doneSmile

My Essence was pretty unstable (had to reset every few weeks), until I hard wired it to a Apple Airport.  You're definitely on the right track with respect to looking at the wifi.

In my experience, my Essence mk2 is not dynamic enough if you hook up something like an airport express close by. One of the kids did just that to improve their gaming experience, and the Essence mk2 became very unstable. For us, the solution then is to remove/relocate the added device or do a factory reset of the Essence mk2 as this will trigger new channels.

If you hard wire it then most of the stability issues should go away.

Dear fellow Beoworlders,

thank you for all the suggestions. I have not yet had the time to explore any of them, but I think I will go down the route of fixed connection to an airport express as suggested by some of you.

However, this morning I had another hick-up. All of a sudden Tune-in Radio stopped playing, and the Essence became unresponsive to play/pauze commands from the app. In Beotool everything was OK. All traffic lights were green. I then switched to Deezer as a source, which started to play. Switching back to Radio, switched on the Radio. Now everything works again.

Does anyone have a similar behaviour of the Essence? Do we know the root-cause? Any structural solutions?

That sounds more like a Tune-In software glitch.  I wouldn't worry about it as I don't think there's anything you can do about it, and it probably will not happen again (at least for a while).
