I’d go for the BV11!
Of course the 11 will be older - but you can avoid the Android cr*p.
And you can use the saved money for a good bluray player and the ATV4 box ;-)
P.S. I am quite sure, that others might give you a different advice - which is fine.
In the end it’s your user habits and needs, that will decide.
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I Agree 100% with Millemissen: Avoid the Beovision 14 with its Android crap!
Go for the Beovision 11.The saved money could be used for a usable Android TV system like Nvidia Shield or a Kodi-Mediacenter PC or a good Blu-Ray player.
thanks guys for your replies
i thought all the android crap was solved though?
I would go for the BV11, if you do not fancy the nice frets that go with BV14. I have a BV11-46 as well as a Samsung UHD -65.
I´m still amazed how nice the picture on the BV11 looks.
Livingroom: BL3, BL11, BV11-46 Kitchen: Beosound 1 GVA, Beocom 2 Bathroom: M3 Homeoffice: M3, Beocom 2 Library: Beosound Emerge, Beocom 6000 Bedroom: M5, Essence remote Travel: Beoplay E8 2.0, Beoplay EQ, Beoplay Earset
Hiort, i also think the PQ is nice on the 11
Another Q
If you already have a BV11 and then buy a BV14 and then got a BeoSystem 4 - would the menus etc look like the BV11 on the BV14?
The BV14 frets also fit on the BV11 (after Mk2) as it has the magnets. Obviously on the 40 and 55 models
Definitely the 11 for the following reasons :
1. The software issues are largely down to the inherent instability of Android TV. Browse the Sony forums and read the AV reviewers experience with Android equipped Bravia's. The issues are too similar to be a coincidence - so i feel there is little B&O can do.
2. The 14 has a worse panel tech than the 11. Not all backlit panels are better than edge lit screens. The 14 has global dimming, which causes huge problems for dark scenes in movies and TV. I had a 14 for 9 months, and i found it unwatchable for those types of scenes. The Avant (pre Android) that i exchanged it for is better in those instances. I found this aspect of the 14 simply unacceptable.
3. In general the Avant i have, which should be broadly similar to the 11, is also excellent in general use - the image is less aggressive, but thats a good thing. I watch a lot of sport and even there there Avant (11) is more natural than the more aggressive 14, while still being pretty sharp with HD content.
4. The 11 loses 4K capability, but hell if i notice much difference (or any at all) between (streamed) 4K content on the Avant (or 11 i would suggest) and regular HD. Its HDR that makes the difference, the extra resolution is insignificant - BluRays on the Avant (11) are still very good.
5. The B&O OS on the 11 works perfectly, never an issue.
6. The sound on the 11 is slightly better than the 14 - the power rating of the 14's audio is a touch lower i believe.
I miss the design of the 11/14 now that mine is gone, but functionality trumps design in the end to me.
Thank you Sandy, appreciate the time you took to respond.
I have an Android Sony A1 OLED and i haven't had any issues. This is version 7. I think B&O Android is version 5.1 - so maybe it's that version (perhaps)
I am also familiar with the BV11 OS as i have the Avant Mk1 and after the first software update there hasn't been any issues.
I didn't know about the panel differences, however the tech video i watched on the 14 shows that the speakers are exactly the same, and I thought when i listened to an 11 that it sounded brilliant.
I mainly watch NF and Foxtel (Sky for our British friends)
Hmm, interesting question - dont quite know.
The Beosystem 4 only has 1 HDMI out, but i dont know what happens with the Monitor Control ports on the back.
I had 2 BV's, one old OS and one Android OS (when i had a 14) - but both were connected to an HDMI matrix, so i still saw the whole 14 UI (Android TV part and B&O settings part).
Also connecting a 4K BV14 to a BS4 - not sure how that will work, as only internal BV14 4K content will work - the BS4 wont pass any 4K through.
I'd really steer clear of the 14, there's is no real gain versus the numerous downsides vs the 11.
I'd also think about whether a BS4 makes sense going forward, given its not 4K HDR capable.
I have one as part of my 12-65, so that was less an active choice.
I generally blow off HDR as something i don't care about now, but it is proliferating steadily now, so my not caring may not last beyond the next couple of years.
Yeah, the speakers are supposed to be the same, but the power output is a touch lower i think.
The Avant Mk 1 is better sound wise than the 14 - just has more punch, a difference that matters to me for what its worth.
The 14 was a teaching moment for me - when i looked at them side by side with the 11 in the store, i liked the more aggressive (modern?) image of the 14.
But it was difficult to compare them on a range of content, just the broadcast signal that both were showing.
I do watch largely SKY in HD, and largely sports. But there are times, even if the minority, when i watch films, and the 14 was not good at all.
Dark scenes i have talked about, but there were also some horrible flaring as the camera panned across the screen at times.
Not sure if the flaring has been fixed, but i'm pretty confident that there was only so much that could be done to improve the dark scene handling.
I should have spent much more time testing the 14 out in the store, and if done properly i wouldn't have bought it.
Android TV is still young - i'm sure to some degree it has got better by v7. But the 14 wont get any of those improvements.
Hi Sandy, what you said about the BS4 makes sense (ie not backward compatible) and thank you for being descriptive... after all you did have the 14 for a fair few months so you gave it a good go
those were my considerations too when i bought the 14.
Ultimately though the picture quality was too annoying, and in the end its a TV.
Hi Michael,
I have a BV11-40 on a motorised hinge. Beautiful TV, and amazing sound from those slim speakers. I have never felt the need to add more speakers to this TV.
As a Smart TV it has always had some limitations and I've added an Apple TV for additional functionality. (A lot of U.K. catch-up services, other than BBC iPlayer, were never added by B&O, and it may have something to do with the lack of flash player in the operating system). Mine is a Mk 1 with the accessories sockets in the top rear flip-out rear panel, and clip-on front fret.
Great picture. The only minor problem I've ever noticed is that on switching on the TV, the hinge sometimes only operates at half speed, meaning that the curtains open before the movement to the initial viewing position has finished. That happens say 1in 10 operations.
Mine has the built-in satellite and hard disk module.
I can't make a comparison with the BV14 as I have never owned one.
Graham
Thanks Graham
Aussie Michael:Those people with a BV11 what are your thoughts on your TV? Those people with a BV14 what are your thoughts on your TV ?

My 2 cents for the BV14. Stable as a rock in my usage at this point concerning the software
One complain about the picture quality.. at evening (with no additional light around) the Automatic Picture Control turns the picture too dark. And that control is not granular.. So it's on or off.
For the rest very happy with my set... I can rant about the issues I had the first year.. but that's all in the past.
Integration with Apple TV4K, cable settopbox controller and UHD Bluray: just perfect. One remote to rule them all :-)
Can't compare it against the BV11..
Karel.
Aussie Michael:Fidse Yes for the looks and the sound quality and connection to devices and all my buttons work etc But yes it’s a hypothetical question whether it is wise or not. 👍🏻
In the end go and spend some proper time with them both, doing a side by side if you can.
I did mine hastily, and just on broadcast HD - if i had tried some movies i may have noticed the limitations of the 14 panel tech.
I won't repeat my earlier comments on the 14 panel - i had it for 9 months, so it was based on living with it for a decent amount of time.
I defended the panel tech at the time, but those who pointed out its likely limitations (vs the 11, the Avant Mk 1) were entirely correct.
Backlighting and global dimming is not a good combination, especially as applied in the 14.
Beautiful design no doubt, but function is still paramount, and its all round PQ is not great.
Reviewer would have been highly critical, if units had been actually sent to many for review.
I looked at all the TVs from B&O on the market, both new and those still available as 'second life' from dealers.
2 weeks ago I bought an unused 11-46 (latest version) and will install it in the next few weeks when my home renovation is complete. The BV11 represents to me the best value for money product in terms of picture quality, audio quality, build quality, motorisation (stand and curtains) and software (menus, OS).
The Eclipse and BV14 do not represent value for money to me and coome up well short of my expectations from Bang & Olufsen.
I am sure I will be very happy with the tv for the next few years. 4K and HDR were not an issue for me in the end although it would have been nice to see a revised BV11 model with these capabilities which undoubtedly I would have purchased new if done properly.
B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

Thanks for your $0.02 , appreciate your response Karel.
Thank you Sandy, very good points.
Thank you Homer Simpson for your reply. Yes i agree if there was an updated panel. Perhaps that might be a strategy of B&O. Make a mini eclipse but have the speaker not stick out and this would look like a bastardised version of a BV 11
Someone wrote buy an Nvidea Shield. is this just another external box or does it do picture processing as well?

Its "another external box". Like e.g AppleTV

Mines an answer with a slight slant.
I already had a BV11, so was fine with that and decided to not go down the BV14 front primarily for the issues that they had with Android, not sure if its fixed yet, but I'd rather not take the chance. The BV11 is great, not too much 4k stuff around still (which also helped me stay with non 4k set) and I've always had DVD or items on a media server so just had an apple tv plugged in with Plex media server if i wanted to wants any of my stuff.
Just recently though I have dipped my toes in the 4k water and just got a Mk1 Avant 55. Again a purposeful choice to avoid Android. Like the set, picture is great. Again an apple tv in the back for Plex media.
So majority of the time I'd say BV11, if you wanted to think about 4k I'd say Avant 55 Mk1, not the NG. I would also presume the non-NG would be cheaper as well.

Aussie Michael: Hiort, i also think the PQ is nice on the 11
It's better than "nice". I have a BV11-46 in my kitchen and it's fantastic. No need for the BV14 or UHD.

So like Gen1 Audi TT roadster. Grab a great one while you can, because once they are gone they will be missed.

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.
Can a BV11 use a normal wall bracket like that you find at a "big box" store , or does it have to be B&O specific?

Don’t count on B&O when anything goes wrong using other than the B&O (or STBrackets) solutions.
Hiort: Aussie Michael: Can a BV11 use a normal wall bracket like that you find at a "big box" store , or does it have to be B&O specific? It is prepared for a vesa bracket.

It is prepared for a vesa bracket.
1. Does that require the 2 screws on bottom as well?
2. Can you imagine how many more BV11 would have sold if it had come with a simple VESA bracket at no extra charge?
