hello there

i just bought a used 18 years bs9000 mk1. I want to connect to my moment streaming to beolabs 18 and some multiroom beoplays. Thought to do that from headphone out to aux in on the moment. Is that ok?

it had a broken glass but i think i fixed it with some abrasion and a glue

the lower hinge was moving without any spring tension, should i fix it? The glass seems to open very well now

the main problem is that after selecting a disc, it tries to spin (seems a tiny movement) but then i get a cd pause and after 10-20sec it moves to cd1 and goes to standby

i have read a lot but I cannot understand if i have to clean, replace or sent for service. If i have to replace where should i start? I ready the service manual but got confused with the intructions “carry out point 1 to 6”. Where are these points described?

i would like to add that even with the glass open the cd changes from 1 to 2 to 3etc.. is that normal?

thank you very very much

The cd needs a new laser, but if you are having trouble reading the service manual, then you should not begin to do this by yourself. It is a very complex unit with lots of safety features, and it is required to perform the steps as described in the user manual. All steps are explained very well if you have the full manual, and not just a part of it. Try reading the whole manual first to find the steps indicated.

The cd can change CD with glass open, just with slow speed. That is normal

/Jacob

Hello eprokos,

I hope that you are able to repair the Beosound 9000, this is a wonderful product and it will be a joy to use when restored to full working order.

The headphone output of the 9000 can be used to connect to the Moment, but there is a better option.  This cable will connect from one of the Powerlink outputs of the Beosound 9000 to the RCA line inputs of your Moment:-

https://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/5-pin-din-to-twin-rca-powerlink-compatible-to-non-bo-hifi-amplifier-receiver-etc-din-to-twin-phono

Please set the Beosound 9000 volume to a high level (50-75%) to give you the full range of volume control from the Moment controls.

You then just need a Speaker Sense Adapter for the Beosound (this plugs into the other Powerlink socket on the Beosound 9000 to allow it to accept commands from the B&O remote control without having B&O speakers connected):-

Kind regards, Steve.

Please read my posts, I have some experience in laser cleaning, replacement. Don't understand what you mean by "pof service". Generally there are companies able to repair/ replace laser but they need sending tchem the existing one. if you are able to take out a laser for sure you're able to clean it first and try wheter it works. Otherwise whole BS9000 has to be sent and it is rather heavy.

To disassembly the BS to get to the laser you have to have some special screwdrivers. If you don't have them please ask someone skilled to help you

What I meant was “for service”. It would be easier for me to remove the whole laser unit and ship it to someone for fixing, not the whole bs9000

i have the screwdrivers etc and the skill in detail ( i am a dentist)

i will remove it hopefully in july and get back to you

thank you!!

Why use the Powerlink outs when the BS9000 has a full tape in/out aux on it, that provides a constant, fixed line out? It's the preferred way of connecting it to something like a Moment or another audio unit.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Hi Jeff,

Yes, that is also a good option, you can get a similar result using a Powerlink socket with the 9000 volume saved at a high level.  This way, the Aux socket is kept free for additional input devices.

I also keep an Aux In/Out cable if you wish to use the Aux socket instead: https://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/5-pin-din-to-4-x-rca-input-and-output-cable-for-bo-naim-quad

You also need a Speaker Sense Adapter for the Beosound (this plugs into either Powerlink socket on the Beosound 9000 to allow it to accept commands from the B&O remote control without having B&O speakers connected):-

I wouldn't opt for the "just send the laser" option.

I would first look at which drive/laser is mounted inside the BS9000. If it has been serviced before and has had a new laser, then there could be already a VAM1250 laser with it's specifc decoderboard mounted. Then you will need a genuine replacement. Sometimes you can be lucky by cleaning or resoldering joint, etc. Ebay-versions will not work.

It's often solved by a new laser as already mentioned. But sending just the laser over for repair? Keep in mind that there are at least 2 PCB's inside the sledge. These differ from the used laser. Some have the DAC's mounted inside the sledge, some have them on the ML board. If you happen to have a CDM12-6 laser, then it will be more critical to find a good working replacement pickup. These are very sensitice and faults can also be caused by an unstable powersupply.

But, as I mentioned first, start by looking which drive you have and check the servicemenu and look at the used hours/days the CD mechanism has played.

I added the shift button to beo4. Pressing shift then 90258 but nothing

also by pressing radio etc on the beo4 the bs9000 not responding. Should it responde or should i do something? By pressing radio etc on the keyboard on the bs9000 it works. Do you think maybe is broken?

That’s normal behaviour.

When you don’t use the powerlink then with every startup, the BS9000 starts in Aopt 0.

I finally found the time and disassembled my bs9000.

It was easier that I thought. I did a small damage but I fixed it I think. The capacitor broke but I welded again.

Cleaned the unit but still CD pause.

So I order the following: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CD-LASER-PICK-UP-für-BANG-OLUFSEN-BEOSOUND-9000-MK1-passend-für-TYPE-2521-2530/273211870003?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I assembled back again till the new laser arrives. i noticed though two maybe problems: it test modes focus on and off and laser position in and out now the laser does not try to focus and I inner and outer position it does not move and the motor makes a noise. Maybe I assembled something wrong?

My biggest issue is that when I took the VAM1205 out I couldn't find the way to remove the laser from inside. Is it glued or something?

Photos included.

Thank you
