Hi there-
I have a recently acquired Beomaster 4000 which looks to be in great shape except for the humming transformer and missing left channel. But my immediate problem is the dreaded switches.
Today, I'm trying to unstick some of the selector switches on the front panel. There is a group of 4 switches (speaker 1, speaker 2, lo filter and hi filter) that will not stay engaged when pressed down.
I've squirted a bunch of deoxit in there in hopes of freeing the latch mechanism up, but no luck. I can't get any of them to engage.
It looks like a major surgery to get in there and see what is going on. Is this situation hopeless? Is it time to break this nice receiver into parts, or is there some way to fix these darned switches?
Any suggestions are very much appreciated.
Jeff
A small tab breaks off the top of the contact carrier inside the switch. The contact carrier is a plastic part.
Is the part available? - Yes, I can supply the part.Is it possible to replace the part? - Yes.Is it difficult? - Err.. no, not really difficult, just labour intensive.

It may also be due to the switchbank chassis having been forced backward by some "ham fisted" previous user, the latches cannot then engage.
You can resite the position of the switch assembly, moving it forward somewhat until the switches latch normally.
You can see the securing screw's at the left side end of the switch assembly, and also through access holes in the switch pcb.

Hello Solderon29-
Thanks for this suggestion. I tried it and I could move the switch bank further away from the front panel and cause the loudness switch (was working) to not latch. But alas, pushing it forward did not bring my row of 4 switches back to life. I'm afraid that the plastic nub may be broken on all 4 of them as Martin as suggested.
Best,
Thanks, Martin. Unfortunately, I think you are right about the switches, although it is a bit strange that 4 in a row are bad!. I need to check on the rest of the health of this thing (for example, the transformer makes a dandy "hum") but I may want to get 4 or 5 of these if you have them. I think I have your e-mail someplace from another conversation.
If you remove the extruded front assembly,it will give you much more access to see what's happening.
You'll need to undo the tuning meter and preset assembly too,and unclip the controls.
The rattling mains transformer is a common failing with this otherwise robust unit.
Member Beolover has had some success replacing it with a toroidal type. Not cheap, but if you intend to keep and enjoy the unit, well worth the effort?

Beoworld newbie here. this is my problem and I am likely going to need these replacement switches too. The same three or four or thereabouts. I think Loudness is ok, Speaker1 works only if you hold it down. Speaker2 also will not latch down and does not work on holding. Then across to the Ambient switch, does not latch. I am still trying to figure out the behavior logic for the front switches; I need to find an Owner’s Manual. I found a service manual on eBay. I also need to acquire a group of Speaker two-pin plugs - are these properly called Din Plugs? I have no connectors (plugs) either for any of the auxiliary appliances: Tape, Aux. I also have questions about speaker Ω ratings and whether I can, for example, use 8Ω speakers with this amplifier (rated at 4Ω). I bought this as a ‘needs TLC’ unit but FedEx delivered it as a broken down kit. My cabinetry will require a bit of kintsugi (ie resin) to put it back together… no respect for “vintage” on the packaging nor shipping ends of that transaction. Any help, advice, comments would be appreciated here.

forvm newbie: forgive please: deleted redundant message text at least. my mobile doesn’t allow 'More' drop_down apparently.
Investigation on this new-to-me receiver: I will require six (6) of these press/latch switches: Speakers1 (works when held down); Speakers2 (no sound at all); Lo-Filter; Hi-Filter; Ambient; & AFC. Also, the (signal strength?) meter lights up, quivers a bit but pegs at 2 for all on functions including the the full FM dial, station or not. Are all these switches the same type, internally?
So my issues seem to be: switches and Speaker set 2.
I hope somebody is still monitoring this conversation.
Thank you.
