Friends,

I have a 5500 system in what I believe is terrific condition.

However, for the past months, the volume decreases on it's own, and then shuts down.

For example, I cannot play at volume greater than 18.

And when system shuts down, I can only restart and play at volume 16.

And so it goes until I just leave it alone at volume 14 or 12.

I live in an apartment building in Midtown Manhattan, New York, USA. And I wonder if there is interference from neighboring system?

Any thoughts, please, on how to correct the problem. It is such a beautiful system with beautiful sound -- especially when I can hear it at 22 or 24.

I welcome your expertise and experience.

Turn it on and remove batteries from the remote. Just to rule out a sticky button.

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

Which speakers are you using?
Is the Beomaster running hot on the cooling fins?
