I recently acquired an SC17 and the plan is to use it for TV and stereo equipment.
Can't find any old manuals or catalogs so far on max weight or similar. Afaik it was made for to fit the Beomaster 1600/1700 (~ 8 kg) and the Beocord 1700 (5 kg) on the top shelf and the Beogram 1600 (6 kg) plus lots of LPs (4 kg ?) on the bottom shelf.
The TV I plan to put on the top shelf is about 18 kg with stand, so a little bit more than the original system. The amp and stuff for bottom shelf would be maybe 15 kg.
So how sturdy are these things? The thing holding me back is that the top shelf has no support «midway», it's just «hovering» all the way over the bottom shelf. Then again, B&O did make good quality cabinets.
Any thoughts?

My thoughts are from your post... that the cabinet was designed for the B&O components you described. I would keep it like that. Mount the flat screen TV on a wall. Get a different cabinet for the modern (surround sound) amplifier or mount it out of sight. ....probably not practical I know but your picture looks so great with original Beosystem 1700.
Thanks, I agree that would look great, but the picture I just found online. I don't have a Beomaster 1600 or Beocord 1600 or Beogram 1600. I just have the cabinet, the SC17 ...
I had one of those - very sturdy and should easily manage your TV. It is your stand and I would use it for whatever you want. I think I had a BM 8000 sit on it for a while and that weighs 21kg!

At risk of ex-communication from the site, I have memories of dismantling and burning the stand And it took ages to burn!
Thanks. I would guess B&O would leave some margin of error ... so if the cabinet is made to take 13 kg + 10 kg or so, guaranteed, the real max. weight it can take would be quite a bit more, I'm thinking.
PS: You burned it?!
Was taking up space and was not in the best condition - no real value these days so had to get rid of it - so it got a Viking burial!
Not very sentimental about these things -if he was still around the forum, Andy Tulloch could tell you about Lee, me and a skip - it reduced him to tears practically!!
