Hi guys,

I need to add rear speakers to my Beolab 18 and 19 setup (with 48" Horizon) and I was wondering if you have any other suggestions than Beolab 17? I'd prefer wisa speakers and have been holding off buying rear speakers in the faint hope that B&O would introduce a new version of the Beolab 3 (anyone thinks that will happen?) - aren't then the BL 17 my only option?

What about Beosound Shape? Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Shape as rear speakers (then without the Core because I have BS Moment)?

Perhaps Beolab 3 with a Beolab receiver? Allows wisa connection

There have been a few posts from members suggesting a wireless Beolab 3 (type) replacement is on its way.

Personally i have no idea, just reiterating what others have mentioned over recent months.

I have the BL3's as rears in my lounge - and 18s / 19 at the front - marvellous combination.

I am pretty sure you would need the Shape’s own Core and not be able to substitute your Moment.

Peter Pan posted on his thread in Danish that the BL30 (the more expensive replacement of the BL3) will be announced at IFA in August.

One would presume it would be WISA capable - double check with the BL50?

However I would presume your BL18s will become the rears Big Smile

You can use a shape as rear speakers without a core. Just plug a wireless receiver into the amp of the shape. Ideally you would have two amps in the setup with two receivers to dedicate them as left and right rear speakers.

Hi neilgk175,

Yes that is correct, you can use a basic 4 speaker Shape without the Core, although you still need a Core to do the initial setup of the Shape Amp (this can be done in store when you make the purchase, if your dealer agrees to it).  This sets up the Shape Amp to the standard settings and allows it to accept a normal stereo audio input.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks Steve and neilgk175

I did not know that

Does it mean you bypass the “wall of sound” effect ? And have two pretty / invisible rears ?

Hi elephant,

Yes, without the Core connected, you lose the "Band on the wall" effect, so the speakers simply play in stereo.

Kind regards, Steve.

Why?

What do you blame them?

I was thinking of changing my 3s as rears to 17 (at a point) but I am also waiting to see what comes out at IFA.

But 3s are good rears for an 18 fronts

I have 18 fronts Avant as centre. 3 as rear with wireless receiver and a 19.

If you have a BeoSystem 4 based BeoVision (like the Horizon) you will see the Shapes in the list of possible speakers,

that you can connect and configure into your tv speakers/multi channel setup.

Just like with any other BeoLab (and a combination of amp and passive speaker) you can choose and give the shapes a role - for example ‘surround speakers’.

Each amplifier module can drive 4 speaker (= 2 + 2) - the amp has a nomal RJ45/PL input which runs two channels.

Configuring the amp (with the Shapes speakers) as speakers should be as easy as with any other BL speaker.

Please notice - if you setup 2 plus two speakers in a R/L configuration with the space between, that you’d need for surround speakers,

you will have to run a longer cables from the amp to the further two speaker set.

If you like, you can mount as many tiles as you please.

Notice - there is no Band On The Wall effect involved here, the processing of the sound takes place in the sound system (True Image) of the BV’s.

Of cource you could also use 4 + 4 speakers - for this you’d need 2 amps.

If it fits into your needs and your room, you could make a Speakers Group of the Shapes speakers to use seperately for easy listening, radio or alike.

In short - a set of 2 + 2 Shapes and the amp can be used just like e. g. a set of 2 BeoLab 3’s.........otherweise there would be no need for these to be in the list of possible speakers on the BV’s!

There is a tv - and there is a BV

It is 22 now and still no substitute for LS3. LS20 are also stopping soon and no substitute either. Sad
