Dear members,
which version of the Beolab 8000 is the best sounding in your view? I have compared MK 1 pre and post ABL and they sound very different. Has anyone compared MK 1 ABL to MK 2 or 8002? Insights would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Kai
I have a pair of MK1 and MK2 BL-8000s. The MK2 sounds a bit more crisp, so I keep the MK2 speakers up front and use the older MK1 speakers as surrounds.
BeoLab 5, BeoVision 7-55 MK2, BeoSound 5 Encore, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab Penta III, BeoLab 8000, BeoLab 6000, BeoLab 2, BeoLab 7-6, BeoSound 8, BeoTime (analog clock), Beo 4 remote.

By Mk1 do you mean the first gen ones that had the woofers wired with a passive crossover so it was a nominally 3, or 2.5, way speaker? Is the Mk 2 the ones that went to the woofers wired together as a true 2 way but before the 8002 that used ICE amps? I've never heard the originals, always have wanted to though.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
To be perfectly honest, I don't know how the 8000s were internally wired over the years. My MK1 Beolab 8000s were purchased new in 1993, and my MK2 versions were purchased new in 2006. There is a subtle audio difference, but mainly in the higher frequencies.
According to Beocentral after No. 10145230 they discontinued the three way design, and at the same time added ABL. They don't say when this occurred, what year, though. So, not sure where 93 falls, the speakers debuted in 92. Mine were bought in 98 so are definitely the ABL ones.
