Dear All,
I'm considering upgrading my trusty Beovision 5, which has served me well for many years! The BV5 is part of a Masterlink system connected to a number of active and passive link amps, a Beosound 9000, and an Overture. I have Beolab 8000's and 6000's for the TV surround speakers. I would like to retain all my current equipment which dates from the mid 1990's
There are quite a few 11-46's available second hand, priced from 3500 ukp upwards. I've searched this forum for information & most threads are dated around 2013 when the set was new, with the general consensus being very good. I'm sure it would be quite a step up from my current BV5 plasma, featuring SCART sockets and SD picture quality!
One issue I have with the BV5, when listening to music from a link source, there is an audible delay in the BV5 sound reproduction (this was well documented back in the days).
Will I experience the same audio delay with the BV 11?
Is the BV11 'optional' HDD preferable over a third party option?
Is the BV11 compatible with the latest Apple TV?
What is the general opinion on the BV11 now it is 5+ years old?
Is it fair to assume my existing B&O collection is readily compatible with the newer technology?
What considerations should I have when choosing a used BV11?

The BV11-46 is still an excellent tv both for audio and vidéo.
My 4 years old set works and looks like new.
From MK2 version you get WISA speakers connectivity, very convenient quick panel on MK1 and 2 (mini jack/usb/HDMI).
I can highly recommend a BV11-46 - i've had mine for almost 3 years now - and is a brilliant bit of kit. Can't compare it to an older BV thought i'm afraid, as it was my first B&O TV.
I use it an an Audio master, working with a Beosound Moment, sharing a set of BL18's as speakers. I have speaker gripes for TV watching, and Audio listening that use different speakers, roles and configs. Very, very useful. All this is running over WiFi / WISA and I have no lags, but it's entirely a NL setup - no ML / NL mixing.
I don't have experience in sending multi-channel audio via a NL/ML gateway to older gear i'm afraid. If I remember right though, there are oodles of controls for each and every speaker connection on the BV11, so there may be options to control delays / latency if the box introduces them. Remember the BV§11 comes with very goos L, R & C speakers built in - so you may be able repurpose the 8000's or 6000's depending on room size.
Mine does NOT have the HDD module, but I don't miss it - and use catch-up apps on an Apple TV4. I've got a PUC configured, so I can use the same remote to drive the BV and Apple TV. The latest Apple TV4K would work, but you won't get any 4K benefit and the screen is only HD (but it's a bloody good HD screen!!)
The only bit of the TV I don't use is the Smart functions - preferring to use either my Apple TV & it's apps, or an Amazon Fire Box - which are better featured, upgradeable and faster to use.
I'd heartily recommended buy one UNLESS you really, really need 4K - in which case the Eclipse is the one to head for over Horizons and Avants (IMHO). And unless you like to hoover up broadcast content, i'd save yourself a few quid and skip and HDD options.

I have the BV11-40. Outstanding TV. I still have the BV5 it replaced. Of course the BV11 can't just simply link into any Masterlink that the BV5 was using... I reconfigured the Masterlink back to the repositioned BV5 and kept the BV11 as stand-alone.
I only use the Smart TV functions for BBC iPlayer and YouTube... everything else via Apple TV. Personally I would recommend the built in HDD unit. It comes (at least mine did) with the satellite tuner with most satellite positions pre-programmed.
The BV11 uses Opera operating system. Very stable. Some TV catch-up services are only available through an iPad and the Apple TV because there is no Flash Player on the TV. (You get messages to upgrade to Flash Player for some services.... but you can't!)

I have my BV11-46 in a multiroom setup. Never had any problems with delay.

I have the HDD, but rarely use it. Everything I need is available over streaming services anyway.

Yes, but I think it will be tricky to fit it in the compartment in the back.

I´ve had my set several years and I´m still very happy with both picture and sound. I have mine on wallbracket with motor.

Note that BV11 has no Masterlink. So yo need a NL/ML converter to create multiroom experience for sound.

And me. And it's a great set. But, whether I'd pay £3K+ for it is another question. If I did, I'd want to make sure I had one of the latest models to come off the production line and definitely a MK2.

To summarise;
- I need to purchase a NL/ML interface. Whilst this adds to the cost I guess it will future proof my current system for a few years!
- HDD preferable but not essential
- look for a MK2 or later. I now understand the latest version is a mk4. I do not currently require WISA but I guess it makes sense to source a later model?
- I will need four RJ45 to power link adapters to connect my Beolab 8000/6000 surround speakers
- I can look forward to no audio delay when playing music in multiple rooms, phew!
If anyone has any further recommendations I would be very grateful.

I bought the BV11 when it first came out. Agree with all previous comments.
- MK2 for the WISA would be nice as you may want to add a BL19 subwoofer, which makes a big difference. Alternatively if you see a great deal on a MK1, you ca always add a transmitter which works without flaw.
- Latest Apple TV works without issue
- You can connect a BS9000 without NL/ML converter with a simple cable from Sounds Heavenly - the only drawback is that the remote can only turn on the BS9000 (the rest will be manual from the panel)

Thank you Gents, yes, there are a few used ML/NL converters available & the manual is available online.
One dealer told me they are very difficult to setup & require an engineer, is this true?
I have read through a couple of long threads on this forum regarding the ML/NL converter. As I intend to only link Audio around my home I understand it would suffice. However I have read of unavoidable audio delay in the system, which would be a big shame....
I have a Mk1 11-46 in 'All Black' (love the white logo writing on the top on these..) on an Easel Stand which I'm selling.
£2,500 buys it, and I'll deliver it within the UK personally if you're not too far away!

I'm very pleased to report I received delivery of a BV11-46 MK2 yesterday, happy days indeed!
I have decided against purchasing an ML/NL converter at present & am looking into other ways to integrate the television into my existing ML setup (I'll start a separate thread on this subject).
The BV11 is a giant leap forward after my trusty BV5, I'm thoroughly enjoying the new levels of connectivity with both the inbuilt sources and Apple TV. Picture & sound quality are an absolute pleasure!

It is interesting reading this thread as I had been trying to do a deal on a 11-40 recently, but the owner has decided he is sticking with it.
Reading the reviews and the calibrated results it is actually a really, really good performing LCD display even compared with todays models. It always looked good in the showroom, but you can never really tell in a showroom, but seeing the review measurements you know it is not going to fall apart image wise when you get it in your front room with the lights down low.
6000:1 ansi contrast and black level measured at 0.02 cd/m2 is beating most 2018 displays. That is beating the lastest Samsung QLED displays and the Sony FALD XF90.
