Hi all, just a quick introduction type thing. I'm Dan, from Cheshire UK & myself and my partner Emma just picked up an abandoned Beovision 8802 from a friend's damp shed.

Sadly the stand has suffered the worst & fell apart, also the alloy(?) surround of the case is showing signs of bubbling paint in places. The internals look good though so will have a better look tomorrow and hopefully get it working.

OK well, now the set has had time to dry out I tried a tentative power-up (I didn't go with a dim bulb or bring it up soft as I doubt this would have done much on a set as full of IC's as this!). The result is we appear to have a flaky main power switch that sticks in one position or the other, but the set powers up ok and looks to be good HV, and there is a decently bright raster, I can see snow & the OSD showing the channel number but on giving it a signal there appears to be an issue with vertical stability (seems to hold, but jumpy) and when a signal is input the horiz. hold goes all to pot, plus there's no sound. (I fancy I hear a dull thud from the speaker on power up).

I have to admit at this point, that I've only managed to drive a signal via AV/SCART as I can't find any coax in the place! I will try to tune in to a convertor box via coax when I get a cable made up or find one but I feel the fault will likely still be there since the OSD is still jumping around with no signal.

Anyway, I'll get on over to the workbench area shortly and try and do some research on the model & chassis number. Hopefully I can find a schematic for it somewhere either online or in paper, anyone got a good recommendation for online schematics? Cheers, Dan.

I don't have the manual for the 8802 but I do have the manual for the 8800 and another for the 8202/8102. The 8800 used the 33XX chassis and the 8802 used the 77XX chassis which the 8102 did as well - if you are reasonably skilled in circuit diagrams, they could be helpful so send me a message and I can post them to you if you would like.

I did have an 8902 for a while - one of my patients gave it to me! I gave it to someone else! Lovely TV! I replaced the aluminium trim with brushed stainless steel.

Yes indeed,a lovely telly and built like a battleship too!!!

If the crt is still good, the set is capable of providing excellent picture and sound, via an external source such as digibox, dvd player etc.

Some Sky boxes have an analogue modulated output, but any digital source could be connected via a modulator kit,so you could tune the set in for use in another room say?

They suffered somewhat with poor connections, particularly around the power/deflection transformer mounting.

I still have a few parts for these sets, and all the service manuals too.

Thank you all for the replies. Yes I was impressed with the build quality when I opened it up, and the nice modular design seems very service friendly. Sadly the power switch arced out and died the next power up, so I've had to hard wire the connections for now. Will have to look at finding a similar switch to fix that issue, I'm guessing it'll be a fairly standard part or at least adaptable with the old switch bracket.

I'll try and send you a PM shortly Peter, thank you very much. Should hopefully be able to glean something from them if they're anything similar, and Nick I shall PM you also regarding possible scans of the service manual. I'll have a look around for any dry joints too.

I may have found some of the reason for no sound hopefully, the majority of the damp has affected the power switch area and the pots below, with the volume control being the crustiest. Some fettling hopefully will yield a crackle or two.

As regards caps, how are the Roe electrolytics these days, are they holding up or is it worth replacing the larger ones? (if they fail open then not so bad but if they're known to short I'd rather swap them before they have a chance, I fancy the set has run all of 15 minutes since 2006 when it was last known to be working).

Thanks again, got to rush out now but I'll message you both later on. Cheers, Dan.

Ah, can't seem to find a way to send a PM yet. Perhaps to do with post count? Anyway, I'd very much appreciate if you'd be willing to help out with a scan/PDF or similar of the 8102. I couldn't reasonably expect for the manual to be posted unless it's to be returned when the set was fixed, or I could buy it from you if it's for sale Peter?

Same plea for Nick too, if you have a service manual covering either the 8802 specifically or the chassis on which it's based?

Cheers, Dan.

EDIT- Also, I've seen a company called Greenfields AV who appear to have manuals for 5102(77XX) in stock, as well as 8102. Do you know anything about that company?

Aha, I may have located an 8802 manual from a link provided on another forum. It's in PDF form so might still be interested in paper copy at some point though. Always find it easier to follow on physical pages rather than clicking buttons/zooming in out etc.

Further to this post, and in conclusion (for the moment, sure I'll be on "the workbench" shortly :) ) I've located a factory service manual covering the 8802, which landed today. Very pleased with the amount of detail they go into and on first glance I'm looking at you, 5C33, or possibly a crusty 5R58... There's my first port of call anyway.

Best of luck - lovely TVs which have long since disappeared from normal view. Good to see one getting some love!

Ah, had a bit of a play and the picture issue turned out to be no more than a crusty pot on the deflection board & another on the tuner/IF board (strange place for it, it was the horizontal frequency pot!).

So now we have a picture at least, tube appears good but there's a few more adjustments required to focus etc but getting there. Main issue as of now is no sound at all, not even a crackle when adjusting volume/bass/treble pots although I did get a little crackle on power-up.
