Hi!

I've searched everyvery and couldn't fint the answer so figured I'd post here.

I'm running a super nintendo connected with rgb-scart (luma sync) to a beovision mx 3500 s/w 1.6S.

Running the console on v-tape 1 gives my picture but the image seems to be 16:9 rather then 4:3 so I got black bars on top and bottom.

I've got a beolink 1000 remote and cannot access the service menu from what I gather, tried menu (shift-text) - 0 - 0 - GO (play) and also 1 -1 - GO.

0 - 0 - GO gives me firmware version.

I tried opening the chassi and look for the pins to connect to reach service mode, but sadly I cannot locate any pins marked with service.

Any ideas ? Is there pins that gives me service mode on this TV ?

Do I need service mode to make the image fill the screen ? Or is this some other issue ?

You need to change the aspect in your Nintendo,if possible,to 4.3.There is no facility in the MX3500 to do this as it was designed before widescreen was dreamt up.

Well the Super nintendo is from the same era and I cant change aspect ratio there.

Some research seems to point toward that I can provide a 12V signal on pin8 on the scart to enable "4:3 mode".

Seems weird that this would be needed since surely 4:3 would be defualt on the TV.

Any idea on how to reach the service mode on this model of TV ?

EDIT: oh, and using a different cable for output from the nintendo does give me a 4:3 image (but not the RGB-scart wich have better image quality and that is why I want to use that cable)

There seems to be some controversy about cables with these consoles? Some enthusiasts are using specific Pal versions I gather including the S/VHS video spec sometimes?

I still feel that your problem is to do with the console output spec or connection, but I don't have much knowledge of these, sorry.

I can confirm that the MX3500 tv is a fixed aspect(4.3)tv and not adjustable to different screen formats

The Scart connection pin 8 is the auto switching feed that simply tells the tv to switch over to that socket when the voltage appears from an external source.

The service mode of this tv will only offer the normal tv adjustments.

Prap's another member can offer further help?

From here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

Pin 8, the switch signal pin, carries a DC voltage from the source that indicates the type of video present.

0 V–2 V means no signal, or internal bypass
4.5 V–7 V (nominal 6 V) means a widescreen (16:9) signal
9.5 V–12 V (nominal 12 V) means a normal (4:3) signal

And further to the above, the Service Mode plug (P48) should be on PCB5 to the right of the TV's rear connection panel.  From memory I think it's simply a small 2-pin plug that looks as if something should be connected.  Press TV, and then simply short circuit the two pins.

However, as solderon (Nick) has already stated, the service manual does not show any ability to adjust the aspect ratio when in the service mode

Thank you for the answers, I installed a button to P48 and it worked great for reaching the service mode.

Sadly as you guys pointed out it did not solve my issue.

Seems so weird can't find anything about getting the wrong aspect ratio from SNES.

Will check if my SCART cable is supplying 12V or not on pin8.
