I am thinking about putting my Beosound 1 in the bathroom to listen to the radio in the shower etc. Would you recommend? Any advice?
Thanks.
Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence
Definitely not dude as its 240 volts. The only B&O that would really do the trick is the BeoLit 12 with its rechargeable battery BUT and hear is the HUGE but, i'm not sure if B&O have sorted out the terrible Airplay problems. Until they do, there is no way I would recommend it to anyone. Have a serious word with your dealer and maybe borrow one but be very careful that it works properly

Or an A3 with embedded iPad 1 as an el cheapo solution.
I have had no Airplay or internet connection issues with mine -- and I think you can cable attach your iDevice to a BeoLit 12 anyway.
What I am not sure of, is which one would cope better with a humid bathroom environment.
The A3 has warnings with it of direct sunlight (but I have) and water (but I have had it as an experiment in out shower room).
Looking at the build and intended usage of the two, my gut feeling is that the BeoLit is probably better engineered for being in humid places e.g. the "Sailing" thread and summer picnics in the Uk which are accompanied by rain
BeoNut since '75
Rolf:Hi, I used to have my Beosund 1 for the last 2 years in our bath/fitness room, listening to the excellent sound. It proved to work very well and I can see no defect of the system. Before it was 5 years wall mounted in the kitchen opposite side of the dish washer. It probably might depend in general on surrounding conditions so there will be no guarantee but I would not judge it that dangerous from my experience. Kind regards, Rolf
Excactly, Rolf. There will be no problems in using a BS 1 in a bathroom. To those who worry about using a 240 volts device in a bathroom:Well - As Chris wrote: He would use it in the bathroom - not mount it next to the shower...
Well, there are bathrooms and bathrooms. To some, it will be a 1 x 2 meter box with a toilet seat, a sink, and a shower delimited by a plastic curtain and no air ventilation to speak of, and a single AC socket with a sign that says "DO NOT USE DURING BATH OR SHOWER" above it.
To some, it will be a flippin' spa that's bigger than the apartments most of us live in.
Use common sense. If you can reach to operate the device at the same time than you operate the shower tap, you probably should keep it far, far away from there. Likewise if the mirror stays misty for two hours after you stopped showering, it's no place for regular electronic devices...

Each to their own, but bathrooms are damp, humid places with water spillages. Having an electrical cord in that room is crazy pure crazy. I seriously can't think of anything more stupid and i'm surprised people have even considered doing this!
Each to their own but now there are so many, many battery powered Airplay & Bluetooth devices out there that a mains powered device is not needed!
Steffen, I think bathrooms in Denmark are also a lot larger than the majority of the ones here in the UK which do tend to be pretty compact!

You mustn't own a Beolit 12!
I love mine, and have never had any Airplay issues with it. I would highly recommend the Beolit 12 to anybody, maybe you should buy one Paul and see for yourself

BeoLab 2000. In bathroom since 7 years ago.
Works like a charm and gets listened-to every weekday morning.

As Michael said, we all use hair dryers, shavers, washing mashines.....in the bathroom. Our jacuzzi and sauna are even 400V powered...:)
All this is allowed in most countries and works without problems. Our bathroom got an extra mains circuit with a special fuse for wet rooms.
And you call it "crazy" ?? We live in 2012....
Why do you think that bathrooms in DK are larger than in UK???
BTW I have a BL3500 in the bathroom and an LC2, which work great since years...
Stefan
I also use a wall mounted BL3500 in the bathroom.

I've got ceiling mounted BeoVox 1. Very good and pure sound!
Was thinking wall mount the Beosound 1 in a bathroom but plug the unit in the other side of the wall.
Maybe a safer option. I'm guessing the problem with saunas in the heat they produce and the products inside them!

Stefan Stefan, did you ever thought about listening to your music within your sauna or maybe you do have already a solution? I would be interested in such a solution. Kind regards, Rolf

Stefan,

Kind regards,

Yes, sure I did. But the family decided: NO speakers in the sauna. So, we just enjoy the Tylö, relax in the silence, and I know this decision was right.
But if I had installed speakers in the sauna, I would have choosen wall/ceiling speakers for outside use, installed them below the seats near the floor combined with an MCL 2A. I tested a BL1000 in the sauna which can control the BL3500 in the bathroom through the glass door - no problems...
Hope this helps

Thanks, very interesting approach. You and your family are right. Sometimes it is best to do nothing and enjoy silence. My wife and I are doing likewise. But sometimes it is also nice to know, that you could, if you would like to .
Tylö is nice, we checked that out as well, then turned to Klafs, which is also very nice and relaxing. Enjoy your SPA as much as you can!

Don't know for UK, but it's not OK in Sweden (even if I have it in some installations, not in bathrooms though )

Carrying power from room to another is a strict no-no in Finland as well. It also wouldn't offer you any extra protection - on the contrary, if the power outlets in the bathroom are protected with residual current switches (or earth leakage current switches, or trips, or whatever they are called in your country).
As somebody noted, we are living in 2012, but the vast majority of the houses we live in were not built in 2012. RCDs are mandatory for new installations, but most of the buildings don't have them. An electric sauna stove is a far cry away from a Beosound or a Beolab when it comes to electrical safety. The former is designed to be used in a wet area, the latter are not. We are not talking about the safety of those devices, but the safety of the users. Regulations differ from country to country, but typically there are limitations on the distance from electrical devices to the wet areas / water outlets or it is simply forbidden to use the mains outlets during bath / shower.
Getting back to common sense, at least don't keep any mains powered (non-IP65 class) appliances anywhere near where you can reach them while touching water or a water tap / pipe. I suppose most of us can avoid splashing and touching them on purpose, but what about kids, demented relatives or p1ss drunk party guests?
Passive speakers are a good idea.
Also, as a Finn, I suppose I know something about saunas. I would not want any music in there
Hi Chris. If you do decide to use a active speaker or link speaker could you not put the plug directly above in the loft? Any way just a thought. By bathroom has a extractor and has no door as it is a ensuite. However the walls still mist up and so does the window and so does my bv6-26 in the room next to it. The bathroom is about 5m long by about 3m wide by abut 3m tall. My bedroom is the same width but about 7m ng and the beovision six is at the furthest point so about 8m away from showere and still mists up. The ceiling in this room follows the roof line so is not flat but peaks in the center if that makes sense.
You know you can add passive speakers linked to a beolink active. And can also get a magic eye to controll. I have been giving this some thought as I want speakers in my bathroom. Jus the thought of having 230v in the bathroom worries me as I don't wan to go out after having a shower and return to a pile of ashes as that's the only thing that would happen if moisture gets in there it can cause the electricity to arc which will n turn cause a fire.
There someone on eBay with a couple at the minute not a million miles away from you. Rochdale.
Apologies it's beolink passive you would need not beolink active
Certainly thinking Beosound 1 wall mounted with my wall bracket that arrived today - connected to the electric on the other side of the plasterboard and then maybe to an Airport express on the other side of the room. Any takes on this?
If it's only radio you want to listen to, have you considered one of these?
Well, wet room is just about complete. Beosound 1 will be going up in the next week or so if anyone can give me an excuse not to.

oh I guess this is .... maybe I will shoot a picture of the A3 having a shower

Elephant, That sounds like a good idea!
It´s a lifestyle.
Uldall, stunning bathroom speaker!!
My BL3500 in my bathroom.
I've had a BeoLab 3500 in a bathroom with shower for 16+ years and it's still working well. I like the idea of adding an Essence Wall Remote. Much safer touching the battery-powered essence remote than touching the BeoLab 3500 controls.
In my master bathroom have a Beolab 11 and a pair of Beovox 2.2 in the ceiling powered by two channels of a BeoAmp 16. I’m using an Essence mk2 as the source. The audio from the Essence mk2 passes to the Beolab 11 (which has a crossover built in) and then goes to the BeoAmp 16 to power the Beovox 2.2. This is probably something of an unconventional paring, but it works very well and sounds incredible together. For completeness, I should mention there is also a 32” Beoply V1 by the tub, but that’s another story. Frankly, of all the amazing B&O equipment I’m fortunate to have in my home, the system in my master bathroom is easily the most used and probably my favorite.

I have a Beosound 35 in my Bathroom and it is working well. No problems.
