I had the opportunity to acquire a MK I BeoVision 10-40 at a very good price.

Could not resist and now I want to connect it via Masterlink to my BeoSound 9000.

Speakers are Beolab 5000 (mondrian flat panel speakers).

In the speaker setup menu of the BeoVision these are not available (only newer speakers like Beolab 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 4000, 6000, 8000).

Which speakers should I choose?

Thanks for your help!

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

I would suggest trying Beolab 8000 as the speaker option in the menu, these have roughly similar sound characteristics to the Beolab 5000 wall speakers.  Don't forget to use fully-wired Powerlink mk.2 cables for these speakers:-

Kind regards, Steve.

These speaker setup - does it make any difference? Back in days with Beosound 2300/3000/3200 and so on, it was not possible to make speaker setup, only setup the bass, treble and loudness - just plug in the powerlink-cable!

Surely it does.

The system knows the capacities/characteristics of the speakers - in terms of latency, bas management to other speakers in the setup etc.

The newer BS (Essence/Core) has these choices in their setup procedure as well - but it is more important for a videosystem (with multiple speakers/5.1).

If a TV is involved the TV needs to know where to send the signals - and what the speakers are capable of.

Almost finished the Setup just to find out that the displays do not work anymore...

Took the same powerlink cable the was attached to the BS9000 before.

Changed the switich to VIDEO on the Beolabs but no Information available.

Did B&O drop support of the displays with the Beovision 10?

On Beosystem 3 (based TVs) it worked.

Hi Ralf,

Support for speaker displays was certainly dropped by the time Beovision 11/Beoplay V1 came out, although I can't recall if Beovision 10 supports it or not.  My guess is that this was dropped when Beosystem 3 stopped being included as the TV processor.

Kind regards, Steve.

I newer have set up speakers on my now sold BS Essence - I could not hear the difference. As I remembered it the sound was a bit worse. But I cannot try again, because I have sold it! :-D

No, they did not - nor did the BV8.

It is a long gone feature.

The sources that could be displayed there were limited - if you look at it with 2018-eyes.

Much of that you now have in the BROne/bt - reflecting the actual sources of a modern BV.....in your own language.

Displaying the volume was nice - but honestly, you do hear that....don’t you.

Bad excuse....

Not seeing the volume of the masterlink BS9000 is annoying.

But since I also lost the Pentas‘ display when using a BeoSystem 4, I got used to that dropped feature (but that is TV only in cinema room).

Basically I don‘t need the BeoVision 10 in the home office, but as a Beovirus struck person I was hoping for display data.

I could strip the masterlink and use the BS9000 with the Beolabs and the TV without speakers (or add another pair Big Smile).

Something to think about...

Just an idea, but might this work:

BV in Opt 1 (Video command only), BS in Opt 1 (Audio commands only).

Powerlink cable Nr. 1 in BS, from there to BL5000 Nr. 1 (Input 1)

Powerlink cable Nr. 2 in BV, from there to BL5000 Nr. 2 (Input 1)

Powerlink cable Nr. 3 from BL5000 Nr. (Input 2) to BL 5000 Nr. 2 (Input 2).

This way no need for masterlink cable and BL5000 would show display data when BS is playing...

Thanks for your comments

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

The problem with connecting the speakers to two devices is that you may have large amounts of background noise through the speakers. This varies from one setup to another, depending on each individual system.

Kind regards Steve.
