Just bought the above mentioned beautiful Beosound 5 Encore as used product. My plan was to connect this digital radio player to my other B&O products. This seems to be more of a problem than I realised.

Is the product a "stand alone" product or can anybody help me to explain how I can connect to my Beomaster 4500? Does it require a special cable to connect or is it even possible?

Also does it work on Wifi network, or is it only durable on an old fashion internet cable?

Thank you

Hi Beo Lover DK

The BS5E is a great looking product.  It was designed to be used as a stand alone product.

It can connect via WiFi however when i had mine, i used a "powerline" adapter and plugged in the ethernet cable from the adapter to the BS5E.  This wifi is for connection to a NAS and Internet Radio.

I also used a NAS drive for the music, and i used just an ordinary WD one - some people sometimes use much more sophisticated ones than me.

I was racking my brain first off cos i found it difficult to set up with the NAS drive.  And it wasn't till i got in to the set up menu

If you use a NAS as music storage, you must set up BeoSound 5 for it.

> Use the pointer to highlight MODE.

> Turn the wheel to select SETTINGS.

> Press  twice and press GO.

So i could send songs to it from my iphone, i used a PlayMaker as that tech evolved (in B&O world) later. but now i think you may be able to use a BSCore (i haven't checked this).

As i don't have any of the classic products, i can't assist you.  But as the classic products had "masterlink" , the BeoSound 5 had a BeoMaster that had Masterlink.

But now if i had one, i would get a google chrome device plug it in to the line in and the USB

I had a look at BeoMaster 4500 on google and all i could see is Powerlink DIN connectors.

Steve at Sounds Heavenly might suggest or have a cable.

I have purchased from him before - great products and great service.

There was a thread where by someone used a cable to connect to the Encore from an A6 (i hope i'm not making the situation more confusing)

That is very easy.

You connect the PL output from the Encore (ask Steve/SoundsHeavenly for the right cable) to the AUX-in of the BM4500.

Now the Encore is a ‘source’ there.

You control that directly on the device and turn on the BM4500/Aux via remote.

Best set the Encore to Option 0 and turn up the volume to almost max.

General volume control should be via BM4500.

That is as easy as it gets, when you try to connect a non-ML product to a BeoMaster 🙂

Hi beoloverdk,

Welcome to Beoworld!

Yes, you can use this cable to link the Beomaster 4500 and the Beosound 5 Encore: https://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/67-298-minijack-to-aux-in-ipod-to-beosound-beomaster-beocenter-using-aux-din-socket.html#/2-length-1m

This cable can be used in two different ways, depending on which unit will be your main choice for listening:-

Option 1) If you mainly listen to the Encore, please connect the speakers to the Encore and use this cable from a Powerlink output of the 4500 to the Line In of the Encore.  Set the 4500 volume to maximum to give full control from the Encore.

Option 2) If you mainly listen to the 4500, please connect the speakers to the 4500 and use this cable from the Line Out socket of the Encore to the Tape or CD socket of the 4500.  Set the Encore volume to maximum to give full control from the 4500.

Thanks for the recommendations MM and Aussie Michael! Smile

Any questions, please ask.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.
