Dear members,

probably not so many Beo4 Cinemas with backlight are around any longer. Is there any demad? What do you think they are worth these days? Seems like such a great concept, but unfortunately they are apparently not very robust and many will meanwhile have failed with spare parts being impossible to get. Therefore, once a defect arises, in most cases the item will be beyond repair. Given that it's been a very rare model already from the outset, combined with its fragility, probably not too many fully working examples will be around any more I assume. Anybody here on the forum who still has a fully operational example?

Greetings,

Kai

A collectors item.

some have it for fun, others hope that it will get worth more, the longer they let it in the cupboard.

The real question is - how many use it on a (nearly) daily basis?

There is a tv - and there is a BV

I own one, and use it all days in my living room. Working like a charm. That's a pity B&O didn't generalize the backlight on all Beo4 after this one. I am thinking to buy another one to replace this crappy BeoremoteOne in my bedroom.

It is really annoying, that is why I still love my beo6, I own 3. Just let the batteries be replaced.

I cannot imagine it is so complicated to let it light up, but maybe it has something to do with the wear and tear on keypad?

What about the buttons on the cinema? I've heard they are not rubber but hard plastic. Does it harden/wear a lot? Any risk of the plastic cracking because of exposure to heat/sunlight? Greetings, Kai

Backlit buttons are generally made in translucent white plastic that's painted in black and the graphics lazer-cut away from the black to reveal the substrate ; not possible in soft buttons.

Other companies are capable of realiable backlit keypads since years!
The keypad quality from B&O Beo 5 and 6 is surprisingly bad! The color of the Beo 5 keys chips of way too early and this is a shame considering it's "high end" and high priced.

B&O should have had a look at RTI remotes, Philips Pronto or Crestron remotes. Even the Logitech harmony has better lasting keys and they are ALL backlit!

RTI and Crestron remotes are in the same price region and both companies are showing since years that such devices can be built to last - which is what I expect from a brand like Bang & Olufsen, too! But to be honest: None of their products seem to be built to last or I'm simply out of luck with the B&O brand despite my love for it. :-)

I own one too but I don´t use it. It´s a nice have. I buy it in August 2007 for 350 € from my german dealer.

On ebay you can buy one

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Bang-Olufsen-B-O-Beo4-Cinema-Only-400-WORLDWIDE-Extremely-Rare-in-Box/302847147851?epid=219504235&hash=item468318bf4b:g:pxYAAOSw241Ykhlm

but the display don´t work so thats not worth to buying.

My cinema works perfect when I put batteries inside include the display.

I currently have a client which has a laser company, I am sure we can produce this at a price.

As I am calculating in production schemes, a BR 1 is a hell of a lot cheaper then a beo 4 to produce. So don’t be fooled by the functionality a Beo 4 is better on a lifespan but I bet 30% more expensive to produce.
