HI,
I have got a beocenter 9300, and refurbished beovox s120 speakers, I know how the speakers sound with the beocenter 9500, and with a nad amplifier, the sound is rich with good punch and dynamics.
With my 9300 connected to the speakers, well it can barely move the bass elements and the sound is very flat. So I am wondering if this is a simple case of bad capacitors or what could cause the mediocre sound.
Mind you that I have got no previous experience of the 9300, so it could simply be the way it should sound...
Any suggestions and information is appreciated.
Hi and welcome to Beoworld!
Does it sound just as bad if you move the speakers to the speaker 2 sockets? If the sound is better on Spkr 2, it may well be a 'mute relay' problem (as this only effects Spkr 1) - there's lots of info on this forum.
Hi, No it is the same sound or lack of dynamics and movement of the bass, no matter which speaker socket I use.
Tested this pair of speakers with a NAD amplifier when I bought the, so I know the speakers are good.
Hmmm. Sounds like a problem with the amplifier then. Although most of the BC9300 internals are actually a re-packaged BC2500, I think that the BC9500 and BC9300 share the same amplifier, so the sound should be comparable.
Perhaps others on the forum can help?
The S120's should sound wonderfull of course!
Although the Beocentre 9500 and 9300 have virtually the same output amplifier, the pre-amp design's are different.
Does the BC9300 sound "flat" on all sources?
Do you use the dreaded "loudness" function on the BC9500,which creates an unnatural boosted bass sound?
Nick
Well, It is the same on all inputs, I do not recall the settings on the 9500 if loudness was on or not, but on the 9300 with loudness on and the bass up, volume cranked up to over half the 9300 can move the bass element almost half a millimeter (-; that is not what i expect from a 80W amplifier. Hence no dept in the sound, laso treble and midrange feels a bit trapped in the speaker compared to the sound I am used to from these speakers.
Think I'm just gonna start recapping and see what that does. also saw that somenoe swapped some components in the preamp to get more punch out of it, so that might be an option.
Well, I was scratching my head as to why the speakers sounded good with the Nad amplifier, but no where near what I am used to with b&o amp.
Long story short, opened the speakers, and that's when I realized that the box is s120, but somehow it has the internals of the s80. BTW, in the product section on beoworld.org the picture of the s80 is not really of an s80 speaker, think it is of the mc120.2.
There are levels of deception and then there is this...
