I'm setting up a Link-room, with Beolab 3. Signal comes from Beosound 5.
BUT: I made a mistake during the rebuild of my house. Available connection in the Link-room is Powerlink, not Masterlink, and its not possible to change. I want/need to add an IR-eye to control the BS5 from the Link-room.
I guess I must convert the Powerlink signal to Masterlink. Can a 1611 converter do this ? and if, do I then connect an additional 1611 via Masterlink to the 1611, to add the IR-eye and connect the BL3 with Powerlink !!?
What on earth do I do !?

It's not a neat solution, but you could feed the Powerlink into an MCL2P, take the MCL output (3-pin speaker connections) into an MCL2AV and then connect the BL3's to its Powerlink output. You'd then control the Beosound 3 and BL3s using an MCL transceiver. Disadvantage is that you are taking a line level signal up to speaker level and then back down to line prior to feeding to your Powerlink speakers.
Hopefully someone else can think of a better solution!

A 1611 converts MCL to ML, not PowerLink to ML :)

As far as I am aware the 1611 needs an Audio Aux Link as an input, rather than a Powerlink. (It uses the Powerlink input in addition in situations where the volume control signal is required on the ML system, such as when a Audio device is controlling the volume of a Video device in the same room.)
Perhaps you could re-purpose your Powerlink cable to provide an Audio Aux Link from the main room and provide an input into the 1611, but then you'd have the problem of how to provide this 'Audio Aux Link' with a signal from your BS5. As Lee says, the 1611 expects an 'MCL-era' signal.
Maybe a setup with two 1611 converters would work. As Guy already said, you can use your PL cable as an AAL cable (assuming it is a fully wired Powerlink cable). The pin diagram is nearly the same, so it won`t be necessary to resolder the plugs. You only need 6 pins (1-6), and the mid pin needs to be cut, I think (or drill a small hole into the AAL socket).
The setup I think about is:
Beosound 5 (Audiomaster,main room) ML -> ML 1611.1 -> AAL(modified PL)-> (link room) AAL (modified PL)->1611.2->ML -> ML BL active -> PL -> BL3
a lot of black boxes :), but maybe it works...(?)

Hi Schone,
Welcome to Beoworld! Why not consider siting the Beolink Active link room box back in the main room and then extending the IR cable out from the main room to place the IR eye in the link room? This way you can run the speakers via the Powerlink cable that is already in place without losing any sound quality or functionality.

It seems like I have mixed up converter 1611 and 1636 - if 1636 is a Beolink Active...
But you solved it, Steve - it's as easy as that. I can place the IR-eye on a wall back to back with the same wall as the BS5 is standing at. The 1636 active will be connected via Masterlink to the BS5 in the same cupboard as the BM5 is in - and here I also have the Powerlink for the link-room. Hell, why didn't I think of that !!!
