Is this possible? The Beomaster requires a 2 pin wire connector and the Beolab requires an 8 pin din plug connector. I hope there is a solution. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi zapdady,

Yes, this is possible!  The Beomaster 8000 has the pre-amp and power amp sections connected via RCA sockets with U links on the side of the case, by removing the U links (and saving them for the future, just in case!) you can plug a pair of Beolab 1 speakers into the two pre-out sockets with one of these cables:-

https://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/6-30-av-processor-pre-amp-sonos-to-beolab-rca-line-in.html#/2-length-1m

Please set the speakers to Line mode using the small switch near the input sockets.  Please note that removing the links will disconnect any passive (unpowered) speakers connected to the Beomaster, so please let me know if you are using any other speakers so that I can advise you correctly.

Kind regards, Steve.

Thanks Steve for you quick response.

3 questions,

1. Is the line in RCA cable, you show in the link, different from any RCA patch cable?

2. I now see the U links. Do you recommend using 2 RCA cables out of the Beomaster, 1 for each speaker?

3. When I use the line in jack on the beolab speakers, will I still be able to connect other powered speakers via beolink plug? I'm thinking probably not.

At present I have 2 pairs of passive speakers connected from the beomaster via 2 pin plugs/wire, but if I can connect the beolab 1 speakers, I don't necessarily need to have all of them running at the same time.

Thanks again,

zapdady

Steve, does this mean the speakers would not be stereo?

Hi,

The speakers will work in stereo, as there are two RCA pre-out sockets.  Normal RCA patch cables can be used, but the best option is to ensure that fully shielded versions are used due to the longer lengths used when connecting to active speakers.

If you also have passive speakers connected to the receiver then please don't use this option as it will turn off the power amps that drive the passive speakers.

Instead, please connect two speakers to the 2 pin speaker terminals on the back of the receiver using this special Attenuated Converter: https://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/power-amplifier-to-beolab-line-in-attenuated-convertor-kit and then use this cable to connect the speakers to the output sockets of the Converter: https://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/av-processor-pre-amp-sonos-to-beolab-rca-line-in (I can include 2 pin DIN plugs free on request with these items)

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve,
Follow up question. I was able to connect my Beolab 1 speakers as you advised. I am getting them to work but with no control of the volume. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi zapdady,

Thanks for your reply, I think you may have connected to the wrong sockets on the Beomaster - please use the pre-out sockets, not the Tape out sockets and you should have volume control.

Kind regards, Steve.
