Does anyone know how to change the belt that opens and closes the cover on a Beogram 4500 CD player? I have the front and back of the unit off, however it looks like a very difficult problem putting a belt on without having all the drive gears go flying when you take the screws out that holds the mechanism together. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no other way. It is not that scary to open up the gear box. Just take some pictures along the way and note where the small washers go. I have seen versions with or without washers, so you might not find any in your gearbox.

Thank you for your advice. I was able to carefully disassemble the gearbox and install the belt. I powered the unit up and the lid operates normally and the disk started playing. When moving the CD player to hook up the main Beomaster unit, the glass touch panel became unglued and slipped off. I simply stuck it back on. Now none of the buttons work! I checked the internal cables and alignment. All functions of the CD player work just fine when triggered by the Main Beomaster or its remote. The glass panel is undamaged. Any other guidance is greatly appreciated..

Hi, good to hear the glass is still fine! Could it be you have used thicker than original double-sided tape? In the cd player there are rubber 'fingers' that should touch the conductive backside of the glass panel lightly. With thicker tape it could be there is no contact, there is not a lot of margin I guess. Hope this helps!

I did not replace the double-sided tape. If I remove the glass and touch any of the rubber fingers, should the fingers act like buttons by touching them directly? When I touch any of the rubber buttons, nothing happens. Only the power light is on. I also noted that a tiny copper contact fell out of the motor mechanism when changing the belt for the lid. As I mentioned before, all functions of the CD 4500 work fine when the CD player is connected to the main Beomaster and operated remotely. Thank you again!

Hi again,

If I am not wrong two fingers should touch only 1 patch of conductive paint on the back of the glass panel. All of the 'buttons' have such a patch. The fingers do are not mechanical switches but are there to measure a change in resistance when you press your finger on the glass. If you think the fingers do touch the glasspanel on the backside, the other thing possibly going wrong is an in-plane misalignment causing the fingers not touching within the conductive area. I did replace my double sided tape (I do recommend btw - these glass panels get rare!) and had no issues. I will look if I can find a thread on this topic.

I got it working after a quick disassemble, de-oxit spray and a re-assemble. All buttons work. My new problem is that I have the motor gears out of sink with the lid position. Any suggestions for this or is it a matter of playing with the gears in a trial and error basis?

Great! Promise to re-attach the glass please! I am afraid I cannot help on the gear issue I am afraid. Good luck! I hope you can get this beauty working again.

I got everything working and secured the glass. Thanks again!
