HENRIK, HENRIK (square4) again he is going out of his way to help a fellow Beoworlder, he is always there, checking the vintage forums, not posting much, but always there and helping where needed if he can. I have met him a couple of times, when visiting DK, a true gentleman and I am proud knowing him.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
I think that if you live in Denmark and you are Henrik, you are doomed to be a great man. I know only two Danes, they are both Henrikas. And they both do their best for others.
BeO is like a good wine - the older the better...
I have it !!!
Thanks a lot for @square4 and @techhn . They did it. They went for it, they paid for it, they packed it, they sent it to me. WOW !!!
I am glad i could help.
If I can help you... just say a word.
I finished renovation of my KEF 104aB, ( yes I know it's B&O forum ) here is short view:
I bought it after reveneer
:
I made grilles because I bought without it
and I changed everything inside, all cables, resistors ( 1% tolerance ) and caps ( Solen 2% tolerance )
I wrote about it because the point is not to catch the bunny but to chase him so I bought ...
... " Beovox M70... one more time "
I start at beginning with veneer, textile grills, and this time I will rebuild crossovers.
I know, I'm little boring but if you want, I will put here photos from my work.
three two one start:
My new M70 serial numbers:
I started from box. Veneer was scratched, decolorized with spots.
Yesterday I put a "rosewood" mask on the surface
and polished it
After that it was ready to apply the first layer of oil to draw the color of rosewood
Now it is wet and very contrasting, it looks natural after drying. I will show it tomorrow after the second layer and dry.
Very nice. When you say you put a "rosewood" mask on prior to polishing can you elaborate on that? What product did you use and how does it work?
Thanks-sonavor
That is a really nice color. Jealous.
sonavor:When you say you put a "rosewood" mask on prior to polishing can you elaborate on that
My English is so poor :)
I used this to fill scratches and holes in the wood. It is a special paste with real wood flour and natural coloring resins.
Rich: That is a really nice color. Jealous.
You have no reason to be jealous ... but when it will be finished
Your post doesn't have a picture or a link to the product you referenced. Can you please post it again? No problem about your English :-). I hope the paste is a product I can find here in the USA. I would like to try it on a couple of my projects.
Thanks
-sonavor
Now I used local product from Poland. In USA you can buy "kiełbasa" i "pierogi" from Poland but not this paste.
Maybe you can find this Italian product, it's the same, I used it too.
https://www.veleca.it/stuccolegno.html
or you can ask some carpenter
Haha, yeah, foods you can buy here. The woodworking paste is interesting. It doesn't appear to be available here and I haven't found an equivalent product yet....but will keep looking.
Thanks,
I can buy this Italian paste here and send to you to USA. It's about 10 $ for paste ( 250g ) and 10 $ for shiping ( Global Express ). It is not a TNT and I think that my post office take it to Texas, I can ask tomorow.
First layer is dry,
my wife asleep in badroom... I can safely put second layer ( on table in saloon )
That would be great if you could do that. I would love to try it out.
sonavor: That would be great if you could do that. I would love to try it out. -sonavor
Ok.
You must choose a color
After second layer:
but I decided to put one more to make colors more intensivity
In the meantime, I fixed the broken grill
Now, I ordered Monacor sound transparency textile and frame dowels to finish textile front.
Yes, I know, now it's photo blog but... I need to show my veneer after I finish my wood work.
Before :
and after:
@Rich , now you can be jealous.
hmmmm... maybe this time in brown:
I try it
Tomorrow I will take photo in daylight.
And in daylight...
Now it's time to prepare some stands for this beauties.
Well done.
Now you need the tulip stands.
Jacques
Now I have 2% tolerance caps from Falcon Acoustics
After half year I have time to finish works with my M70,
I took out crossover, disassembled all elements and checked it:
all resistors were overeheated and the values are difference over 20% than nominal. I ordered new ones like last time I ordered caps.
I assembled everything to temporary crossover.
Waiting for resistors I decided to make a professional PCB. I make scheme in KiCad editor:
and I put everything on the PCB project with electronic parts correct dimensions:
Now I talk with some company to product 2 pcs of this professionally. It's my first computer projected PCB but it should be looks like this 3D model:
The new capacitors in the photo seems to be 10% tolerance rather than 2%, from what I can see - but they'll be absolutely fine.
I know it's tempting, but good advice would be to not use resistors with higher wattage than what the factory fitted. Some resistors also perform a task of protection (read: thermal fuses) in case of overload. That's also why one or a few of them has discolored - the speakerhas been overloaded at some point.Higher wattage resistors will not burn as easily, and damage may instead occur to the drivers.
And I suggest you fit the resistors upright, as B&O did on the original boards, for better heat dissipation.
Martin
Thank's Martin,
All caps are 2% tolerance.
It's a reason that I always take caps from Falcon Acoustics. They always selected caps by tolerance from stock and you always get what you order.
I mark my caps tolerance notice in red "oval"
Oh, please take that only as a guarantee of a tolerance of 2% when measured on the shop counter. Most new electrolytic caps will be within only a few % and things will then change a bit in use.
And what is the "wrong test frequency" for capacitors?
- Not that it matters one tiny thing in this case. You could easily fit 20% tolerance caps and never be able to tell any difference. You won't be using the capacitors only at 1KHz - and other parts of the speakers could easily have far wider tolerances anyways.
I know, I know, but... I like this 2% symbol on the bill and it gives me satisfaction
Falcon Acoustics is good british audio company with traditions and experience and I'm trust in it. I ordered caps, coils, resistors always from FA, I always had good contact and consulting. If I had some problems with order, it been resolved in my favor.
I have answer from PCB factory. It is no problem to do this in only 2 pcs. Yes, yes, yes... but maybe I take more for another pair.
Very interesting project!
I wanted to do the same but it was left on the back burner since.
The only concern I have is the crossover response with so many capacitors. I read somewhere that it was "preferable" to have same value capacitors when paralleling them.
Nice project!
hmmm ... I bought one more M70 this time in teak, younger than mine. Venire is in very good condition,, textile without damage and orginally with pin. Tweeter, bass and mid speakers looks like new and...
... yes, finally I have trumpets !!!
I don't know what I will do with M70 but I decide to use trumpets with my set.
Stands were without deep scratches, but aluminum was oxidized and dirty.
I can't wait until tomorrow, I started cleaning and polishing, and after half hour I finished it:
It looks awesome with my rosewood/brown M70:
and on place:
Just lovely. Hope they sound as beautiful as they look.
Really beautiful! Nice find.
Short question: do the trumpet stands match also M75 or only M70?

Vintage Bang & Olufsen
Rich: Just lovely. Hope they sound as beautiful as they look.
Hi,
Yes, I compared it to this teak M70 without new crossovers and my Beovox sounds better.
the_o_master: Really beautiful! Nice find. Short question: do the trumpet stands match also M75 or only M70? Theomaster
I want do the same with M75 or M100,
Here you see only trumpets
but here you can see bracket, speaker support:
In trumpet you have bolt, in bracket you have threaded hole. If you make bracket for another speaker, you can put it on trumpet... I think
Maybe here I get some answer about this:

My friend bought Beovox 5700 and 5702 and I want know something before I will listen it. Both in good condition.
I know that in 5702 is KEF passive radiator and in 5700 is rounded. I know that 5702 is rare, but which sounds better ?? I know that in both high and midtone are celestion. Both low tones are norelco.
