BEOSOUND 5 & WIFI

Hi, I have just now bought a BeoSound 5... no Encore... I would like to know if any of you managed to connect it via WiFi and how, namely with what kind of product... thanks a lot for the advice you can give me!

You’d have to connect a usb wifi dongle - and have the right drivers in the op of the BeoMaster......and go into the BM5 settings menu to enter the password for your wireless network.

There used to be a compatible dongle, but I am not sure if this is available anymore - ask your dealer.

An easier solution would be to get a wireless access point with an ethernet port - and use that for the connection to the BM5.

This might also be perferable because of the better quality of a modern wifi solution.

Alternatively you could use a PowerLine adapter (in a similar way).

And what people often forget to tell you is that your choice will be based on where you live: In ye Olde Worlde, with those cute little Siemens breaker panels but 14"-thick stone walls, you go for a pair of Powerline Ethernet adapters. Here in the States (or any new-world housing) you have sloppy -- and huge -- breaker panels (and often utility usage-transmitting meters!) that just trash the signal, but mere sheetrock walls: therefore you use a Wi-Fi access point having an Ethernet port. (If you specifically buy an Apple AirPort Express you get a free AirPlay input to boot! That's assuming you want it because you haven't already installed Shairport4W.exe on your BM5...)
