Hi there,
I recently received a Beovision 7-32 for free from someone who was going to throw it away.
It's my first B&O product and there was no manual with it so it has been very confusing learning how to operate the device.
I have some questions regarding laptop connections and the speaker.
Is it possible to connect my Macbook Pro 13-inch (Mid 2012) to the TV to stream shows and movies on the screen? If so, how would I go about doing this?
And, in the event that I cannot connect my laptop, will I be able to use the speaker (I believe it's the Beolab 7) as a standalone speaker with auxillary input for my laptop and phone?
Also, I tried to connect a PS3 to the TV yesterday but only managed to get video but no audio from the console. Is this a fixable issue?
Thanks guys.
I think that your 7-32 is a Mk1 version which just has SCART and hopefully a DVI socket - the latter should be useful for what you want to achieve.
What outputs does your laptop have - hdmi or dvi, or even VGA?
Also, how did you connect the PS3? - I presume you had it set to composite output and went into one of the SCARTs.
I'll put together a further answer whilst I wait for yours - I have to go soon!
Assuming that you laptop has an hdmi output, your best solution will be to feed it to the 7-32's DVI socket. You could use a simple hdmi to DVI converter, but DVI only carries sound, not audio, hence you'll also have to either:
- Run a separate cable from your laptop's audio/headphone output into the TV's red/white PC audio sockets., or ...
- Use an hdmi audio extractor to extract the audio from the laptop's hdmi signal. I use this one: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/aoeyoo%C2%AE-Analog-Converter-Digital-Extractor-White/dp/B00NAJ4UM2/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1539801749&sr=8-20&keywords=hdmi+audio+extractor which ahas the added benefit of stripping out the hdcp signal. Google hdcp and you will see why this is required for a non-HD-ready TV like yours.
If you previously connected your PS3 hdmi output to the TV's DVI, the above explains the lack of audio.
Thanks for the quick reply, Guy.
I used a DVI to HDMI cable that came with the TV to connect the PS3. That's what gave me video after a bit of playing around with the settings, but no audio. Will this connection not support audio information?
My laptop has a mini display port which I can buy an adapter for, MDP to HDMI. Would connecting the TV to the laptop with just that adapter give me video and audio from the laptop?
Thanks,
Luke
Sorry just read your second answer which answers the questions in my second post!
Hi Luke,
I just googled MDP and see that on a laptop of your age it should also carry the audio signal - you may have to play around with the laptop settings to make sure that it sends this.
So yes, I would go from MDP to hdmi, then via an audio extractor to your current hmdi to DVI lead into the TV.
In order to leave the computer and ps3 connected together, you may wish to get something like this: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/AGPTEK-Switch-Function-Extractor-setting-PC000211/dp/B01DD9X27M/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1539803164&sr=1-3&keywords=double+hdmi+audio+extractor
