I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned this sooner. That speaker (or one like it) is hanging in every high school hall way in the US.

Big Smile

Actually,  I stumbled across it in a link to the magazine it was in from a used hifi site that had a cool pair of 1953 Bogen tube amps for sale. And yeah, I thought of this when I first saw the Edge, I remember every school and also every admin building in every military base I'd ever been in having them, but had forgotten about it until I came across this magazine and the ad.

In case anyone wants to see the way cool retro tube amps, ca. 1953:

Link to the magazine pdf is in the page too, very cool if you're into vintage hifi and hifi history.

MId Century Modern is still hot, so maybe the designers grandparents tipped them off. And I would assume these aren't "real" stereo, either.

Still in use today:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp1spnn1Nk8  --  one of them even toggles back-and-forth in the video (oops)!  Alas, our high school had those crummy down-angled trapezoidal boxes with the 1950's grill cloth made of flax, or iron, or whatever-it-was.

But that Lowell speaker is perfect for Kiran's ongoing B&O Home: "protected from dust and mortar".

[Edit: Forgot to mention they are still in business: http://www.lowellmfg.com/ .  But Lowell's LCB-8 (~$200 each), which is just the baffle for the actual speaker, is no longer listed on their website -- they have switched to square baffles now.  You can probably find old round ones in stock somewhere if you look around.]

Nothing a Chinese DSP board and Class D amp module couldn't fix!

Speaking of Class D amps, wonder who uses ICE power amp since B&O sold them?

@The Jeff-Poodleboy Duo

From the website of ICEpower:

The Bang & Olufsen period has enabled ICEpower to develop into a high-quality amplification provider with high audio performance.

https://icepower.dk/

Would have been a shame to keep a company with this much potential inside the Bang & Olufsen corporation.

Not quite the purpose of B&O to develop and provide other companies with modern amp solutions.

Which - of course - raises the question: what is the purpose of the Bang & Olufsen company.....

.....which undoubtedly is something we won’t agree on.

Interesting take on it, it would be wrong to keep ICE, we need to set it free, as if it was a caged bird you are returning to the wild. Set it free before it's dragged down by B&O's woes? Or sell it off because B&O was desperate for money, selling both ICE and car audio?

You're right though, what the purpose of B&O is supposed to be is a matter of debate and opinion.

@ the MM/Jeff duo

The real purpose of any shareholder-owned organization is to maximise the financial value to the key shareholders. It's really quite simple. If you can do that without getting your hands dirty, that's even better.

Or maximize the size of the Golden Parachute your CEO will get when he finally bails out before the place augurs in.
