Totally new to this so here goes:

Bought new 5500 system in 1985.. The turntable has gone unused for a few years. Except for cassette deck (which I am not concerned with) all else works fine including Penta speakers.

I am not a DIY guy. I need to find someone who can repair this turntable.

Belt revolves but not the platen. May just need a belt for this. Also the tone arm does not move when I push the PLAY switch. Needs a cartridge with stylus (original is MMC5) but it makes no sense to buy one unless repairs are effected. Can anyone (legitimately) help with this search?

Stupid question, but you have released the transport screws?

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

As you have ownwd this long time, you probably know that arm do not move unless there is a record on the platter?

And the carriage won't move unless the platter spins.
Will the platter rotate by hand?
