Oh, and I can add that the wall bracket should arrive at my danish dealer around the 29. November.

I have also ordered the V1, but it's on backorder until the 4th december.

I told my dealer to deliever my new toys all at once, so I wont be getting the A9 until the V1 comes back in stock.

Please dont judge me, but I dont own any power tools Embarrassed Which means that you will have to wait a bit longer than the 4th to see it hanging on the wall. I will however post some photos of the bracket it self Smile

When ? In Aluminium or  chromsteel ? I write a letter in Bang & Olufsen to explain the feet problem.

Vitra propose for the model Plastic Eames Chair many feets. Woods, Metal. B&0 should do the same.

I think the bracket is white. But I'm not 100% sure.

The point is that the A9 hangs on the bracket, and easily can be lifted off to place on the floor. This leaves the bracket hanging on the wall, and therefore B&O has chosen to paint the bracket white, so it wont stand out when not used. Ofcourse this only works if you have white walls!

I hope so ! I made an email to STB to find a modern and nice solution. What a shame for B&O !

Test drove an A( today Smile using my iPhone 3gs - sounded great with:

  • Frank Sinatra
  • The Eagles <= slaesman said he had spent 2 hours listening to the Eagles on it
  • Erin Bode
  • Dawn Langstroth
  • Till Bronner with Melody Gardot
  • Filippa Giordona <= she impressed the salesman
  • Dory Previn
  • Jane Birkin
  • Joan Baez
  • Lana Del Ray
  • Leonard Cohen

It was interesting listening to it from the rear - little or no bass and it sounded sweet as !

From the front it was nice - and of course the salesman gave it 4 swipes to show how loud it could go.

I am still convinced that my tinnitus came from a salesman doing that with Beolab 5s !! Still don't know why they think loud is good, anyway ...

I had not realised that there are tell tale lights (or do I mean tail lights Big Smile) on the back showing that it is on or off /muted.  The salesman showed how if you receive a phone call you simple have to give it two broad brush strokes (right to left) to kills the sound and then reverse the process at the end of the call.

I found it impossible to lift one handed by its carry handle ... needs a top and bottom clutch grip so don't think that female partners can tote it around the house !

Set-up was easy, attached myself to the store network, started playing a song, selected Airplay ... and as Steve would say BOOM !!! there was the music.

On the other hand, I did suffer at least 2 maybe 3 drop-outs where I had to reconnect even though I was rarely more than a metre from it, and now one else was in the store playing with iDevices and networks .... nor was I dancing at the time Laughing

Plan is to return for more tests using a different selection of music ... maybe 1812 ?

Hi elephant

I am going to test drive the A9 too and I'll let you all know my impressions.

What other connections are in the rear ?

Cheers

Michael.

I did not open up the panel ... so all I saw was a gray power cord -- and contrary to some comments in the threads there was no evidence of any special treatment.  Though I do wonder if B&O should start offering power cable alternatives: gray, black, white, translucent !

Anyway, Cliff and I are planning a visit for Thursday just after lunch -- will you be in town around that time ?

Today I had the opportunity to listen to the new BeoPlay A9 at B & O Nice (South of France). I transcribe my impression is very favorable, an enclosure with a versatile sound very neutral. In the sound spectrum, very good deep bass, a midrange and treble phantastic very pleasant. I was hooked. Shame for wooden legs that do not really go with my modern apartment. Please STB,  launched out polished aluminum feet. I really do not understand the choice of wood while Bang & Olufsen is a leader in the treatment of aluminum. I am waiting for the release of a new stand before any final purchase.

I've got mine already and I do really like it.

It sounds not that horrible ;)

My post in the German forum: http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/3587.aspx

Is "sounds not that horrible" intended to be a positive recommendation or review for this expensive product?

Maybe the meaning's been lost in translation!

I,m loathed to write this but does anybody else think quality of the plastics used in one of those photos looks truly dreadful?

It must be a trick of the camera I'm sure, but I've always believed that if that's on the outside and on show, then what's the quality of the bits that you can't see? I,m a fan of the A9 so am not trying to start another "it's not made in Struer" discussion.

Which part are you talking about? The "white" part looks fine on my screen, and the black part is concealed behind a "white" plastic cap.

The white plastic outside is in high quality ! Better like the BeoPlay A8 ! The plastic inside is a special resine to absorb sound frequencies. You can not see; it is hidden.  Smile

Thanks Vienna for the photo ! Looks good. My dealer said: the best acoustic sound is to hang the BeoPlayA9 at 1.20 m because you can ear better high frequencies. I am totally agree with him. Big Smile

Many engineering polymers have "glass" reinforcement, whereby small strands of glass fibre are mixed with the molten plastic. This gives a much more rigid and mechanically strong moulding when set. The picture isn't definitive, but it looks likes glass reinforcement that is catching the light.

Right the rear electrical black plastic don't look nice. Shame that lines plugs are not gold plated. It looks cheap for the price ! Wink

You're actually wrong. Look at the VERY visible WiFi antenna of the V1. Anything similar for the A9. Hope not...

Actually the V-1 is the exception which proves the rule.  Wi-Fi, as such, doesn't require an exposed/removable antenna; the V-1's all steel shell requires it.  The A-9 along with the BeoLit 12, the A-8, and the BV-11 all use hidden antennae.  Rest assured that it's  Wi-Fi ready as shown.

BTW, with regard to the glass-impregnated resins mentioned above: pull the fret off of many modern BeoLabs, even the fabulous BeoLab 5, and you'll se a LOT of that stuff.  Nothing to do with cheapness, all to do with weight/strength, acoustic resonances.

We kid because we love.

And most of the older ones too! Pentas, 4000s, and the classic passive speakers have similar resin fronts - S45.2, M100 etc!

not sure if it has been mentioned, but at least I have had a hard time noticing it on pictures: the fret i.e. the front of the A9 is convex. Actually works positive for the appearance.

I was not so impressed by the sound, however the listening room at the dealer was quit large. On its legs it will fit in rooms of certain styles, but more likely to fit in many on the plastic wall bracket

worth mentioning is my girl friends first comment, why don't they do the legs in aluminum so they match the design of the speaker Idea

I write an email to B&O last week if they will launch aluminium legs in options. I received today a reply in words: no. I will not buy the A 9.

I have now listed to the a9 a couple of times and feel that the sound will be better on the wall bracket (ear height) which eliminates the wooden legs issue. I also think this speaker is a fun and convenient solution rather than the best possible sound - to my ears and for the sort of music I listen to I think my current 4000s or bl3s with playmaker provide more - will be buying the a9 though.

Got my A9 and V1 today. Sadly the legs were missing due to new procedures. They are no longer bundled inside the box. The legs should be delievered sometime tomorrow, and I'll be sure to post some photos by then :)

Love the picture on my new V1 and the menu is perfect. But I think it needs to be replaced due to some extensive clouding. Its visible even in a evening lit room, and thats too much for me :(

The wall mount seems solid. Its powdercoated white.

i haven't had a chance to hear it yet, but I love the look of it and the simplicity - as for the Wooden Legs - I think they're great, very retro which is quite an in look at the moment - I would go for those over chrome

I had a look & listen today. I must say like others too it is very different in the flesh, smaller physically but sound stage is huge for its size.

I was very impressed and now trying to find a space for it in a fully linked house.... Something is just might just have to go!

I think it needs aluminium and also a choice of black legs
