BEOLAB:  BLAB8000

Type: NO 6801

Serial No:  9733264

Vr. groet,

Paul

There is no serial number beginning with 9.

Recent years begin with 2 - a 9 would indicate a veeeery future version :-)))

Must be a 0 there too.....which would mean a 1996 version.

A 1 would mean around 2006 and they have no ‘foam problems’.

HI PP and MM,

What I always understood is that (next to the bass update) there also has been a moment in time when B&O changed the drivers. The older versions have the drivers with a little dust cap, the newer ones with larger hollow surfaces. My 8000s have the latler, hollow ones and serial number 13XXXXXX, so around '98.

I found some images on the web showing the difference. Maybe it helps to determine the age of these speakers.

Regards,

Johan

Thanks for the answers. I couldn't find anything about the serial number which I found on the speakers. I will try to link to a picture, but I'm not sure if it will work:

Hi,

I would say (as your serial numbers have 7 digits, and mine, starting with 13, have eight) that they are the "09****** - 1992/1993" ones. The labels just do not carry the 0. Can you tell what kind of drivers are in the speakers?

We will persist!

I must correct myself - it seems that there are serial numbers starting with a 9.

You named the reason: those are 7 digits.

Later on (with the change from 9 to 10) they made the now used 8 digits version.

Evening!

Looking at the drivers, these must be the early 8000s. Also check this thread: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/18791/162722.aspx#162722 that is about the 8000s and their changes since launch in '92. In some threads people cannot really tell any difference (sound wise) between early and late 8000s.

I use mine with a BeoMaster 6500 + BeoGram CD 7000. I was able to find a pair of the rubber cable covers that make them look really good.

Enjoy them!

The answer is on the label on the front.

Hi Blackrix,

I think you refer to the MCMXCI (1991), right? I believe that that is some kind of copyright year: also my BeoLabs carry that year indication.
