The manuals of the BS5 and the Encore do not refer to browsing by genre (only by album, artist or cover).

So is there any way to navigate this way: Genre > Artist > Album Track?

I guess not, but I thought I would ask just to be sure. Sorry if this was discussed before.

Thanks, js

Hi JS there MUST be a way to do this.  Ive just tried this in my iTunes & half a second later there was everything in Genre order. I'm sure B&O have thought of this?

Yes, it is discussed before, but there is no such thing as genre. MOTS will keep you in your genre (sort of). Or you could put your albums in a coloured (play)list and go from there.

The latest Creation 5 app for IPad offers a sort by genre.

No, it's not possible to search by genre on the BM5/BS5.

And it's so frustrating that such a simple feature is not available in BM5. I have asked B&O a couple of times and the answer is that this is a feature that they do not intend to support. There was no explanation just that this is a decision made by the development team, and that is the way it is and will continue to be.

I'm listening mainly to classical  music and not having the ability to search for, for instance, "Opera" is really a disadvantage. The fact that they do not intend to implement a more advanced search function, which I know is smth. that many users want, makes me doubt B&O's dedication to this system.

"Creation 5" has just been updated and this will do want you want. However, BS5 is created with the near-control experience in mind and "Creation 5" cannot replace that.

Hi Fisp,

That is absolutely crazy - even the cheapest iPod Nano allows searching by Genre. I use Genre a lot as I give individual tunes their own Genre title eg. Beach House or Ibiza chill out and this is imported from my own iTunes library into specific radio presenter playout lists.

Gotta laugh at B&O's arrogance - stupid fools! I really havn't the patience with idiots like them if that is their answer they gave to you. and they wonder why most people will not buy their audio systems.

Genre is a problematic tag.

This problem is magnified when one has music from various countries.  For instance, is Jovanotti music on my English-based iTunes system "Italian"?  Or is it "Rap".  If I classify his genre as Italian, OMG, it may follow Va Pensiero, which I have as a single and not as part of Nabucco.   If I class it as "Rap", will it go after an Eminem song?  Is Soda Estereo "Rock" or is it "Spanish"?

12 years ago I tried to start doing genres such as "Spanish Rock" but I stopped quickly after I found my library had both genres "Rock en Español" and "Spanish Rock".

Net/net, genres are pretty much dead to me and get no use in my 70+ gig iTunes library.

Simple dude, do as we do in radio and design and make up your own genres!

I find this topic to be especially relevant with Christmas just around the corner. Having a "genre" category on the BeoSound 5 would definitely be the easiest way to select Christmas music. The alternative is to assign music to one of the (ONLY) four playlists that can be created on the BeoSound 5. This is not an ideal way to do something as simple as selecting Christmas music. This should be such a simple feature for B&O to add. There's certainly room for a "genre" listing on the BeoSound 5 screen.

This topic really makes me wonder if B&O is listening to and caring at all about customer feedback. Don't customers want Apple Lossless support? Don't customers want gapless playback? Don't customers want to be able to search by genre? Don't customers want to be able to have more than four playlists? All of these features seem so basic, sensible, and easy enough to implement.

genre is the most polluted data field in digital music, I would wantnto scroll through genre in the beosound 5.

HipHop/Rap Hip Hop/Rap & Hip-Hop/rap reggaeton y Hip hop

Electronic Electroniek electonic/dance

First Mots avoids the genre issue, second estehetic- wise scrolling through a data field mainly out the  management scope of B&O would ruin the bs5 experience third any dlna app allows you to scroll through genre,

In real life I never use that feature.

Give users the option to choose interface and use the genre tag if that is what they want. It would be very easy to implement such a feature.

MOTS is nice but not for serious listening (Sorry!) The same goes for playlists. At their best these features are very poor replacements for more advanced search functions.

I have tried all the dlna apps out there and in my view "Creation 5" is by far the best but it is still lacking and cannot yet replace BS5's near-control experience.

Don't now, however, really would like to have the genre option available, filled with my own data to prvent the issues described above, however, please see below the reply i got from B&O some days ago...

We are pleased to see you are the owner of BeoSound 5.

I am sorry to inform you that we do not have plans to get the "GENRE" button back. You can create a favourite folder instead and then put your music in the folder your self by genre.

Sorry for the negative answer

Kind regards,
