So, I replaced the capacitors on the cd player and now it seems to have no problems playing cds. I noticed that the capacitor that is soldered to a resistor was particularly corroded and suspect it may have been that one which was dud.
But now a new problem has arisen, there is a lot of hum when playing cds and when I pause the cd I can hear a clicking noise (through the headphones, not from the machine), I lifted up the beocenter and tilted it and the noise stopped, now I can't help but wonder if I maybe didn't put the frame that sits under the player back in the right way.
Should the silver metal housing that sits between the player and the springs be screwed to the base of the amplifier anywhere? Mine is not
At the moment the hum and clicking is gone, hopefully it will stay that way!
Correction: there is still some very light hum there. How are other people's players, do they have any hum?
One thing that did happen when I replaced the capacitors was that the resistor to which one of the capacitors was soldered broke off, I resoldered the resistor but it has much shorter arms (legs?) than it used to, if that could affect anything?
Any one have any suggestions as to what it could be?
hum was worse again today, picking up the unit and tilting it seemed to make the hum go away, anyone out there that can post a photo of how the housing under the cd player should sit? I mean that when you take away the spring mountings there is a metal frame under the cd player, I would like to be sure that it isn't screwed to the base of the amplifier
Check the power supply for cracked solder joints.Particularly at the large filter capacitors (typically their center pins) and around the relay.And also at the regulators on the CD decoder board (the CD-related board at the bottom of the Beocenter).
