Hi all,
A friend of mine has a Beogram 5500 connected to a Beomaster 5500. In the past weeks, the sound it produces has become distorted and jumpy, a bit like playing a CD that is scratched (her description). The platter seems to be turning at the right and regular speed, and the tonearm does not seem to be faulty either.
Other sources that she has connected to the Beomaster 5500 work fine, so the problem seems to be related to the turntable, the amplifier and the loudspeakers are fine.
Do you have any ideas about what the problem is? Preamplification problem, tonearm adjusting, ...? Also, where can this be repaired in the Copenhagen area? (I am not sure a regular B&O dealer repairs turntables anymore, but I could be wrong).
Many thanks for your help!
Klaus

Check the needle tip.Perhaps it's very dirty - perhaps it has fallen off.
I'm in 2880 if everything else fails.

Thanks a lot Martin. I just checked with her, she says that the problem is the same with her current MMC4 and with an MMC3 that she borrowed. So either she is wrong (?) or there is something else.
I will send you a PM. Again, thanks.
Have you checked the tracking force setting? It's a slider at the right side of the tonearm.
About 1.4g is usually a good setting for MMC3/MMC4.A rebuilt cartridge will sometimes need an additional 0.1-0.2g.Martin
Thanks a lot Martin. She will check and I will get back to you.
Hi Martin,
Just to let you know that by adjusting the tracking force setting along the lines you suggested above, my friend now has a fully operational Beogram 5500 again.
Many thanks for your kind support and advice, much appreciated!
