Has anyone successfully made PL to RJ45 adapters for use with UTP-cabling? I do not feel like replacing all the cabling in my walls so I am going to try to make adapters.

Yes, I do make Powerlink to RJ45 adapters to allow Beolab speakers to be connected via RJ45/Cat cables.
However, I must stress that standard (unshielded) UTP cabling is NOT suitable for use with B&O speakers, as these cables will cause major noise issues. The adapters that I make (as with all Powerlink to RJ45 adapters) should only be used with STP or S-FTP (shielded) cabling to avoid noise problems.
If your are in any doubt, I would recommend using the thin (2.6mm diameter) Powerlink mk.3 cables instead, as these can easily be hidden under carpets or skirting boards for neatness.

To add to Steve's answer: Keep in mind that the MK3 cable does NOT work with all Beolab speakers (for example Beolab 5). It is better to just lay new Cat 6a Cables. Question for Steve: I have MK3 cables behind the wall and want to upgrade to beolab 5. However, I am not in the position to add additional cables. Would it be possible to use a combination of Beolab receiver 1 (I think it outputs 4-5 pins) and the cable for the remaining pins? This would obviously require some adapters, but in theory I think it should be possible! In the past I have soldered all my cables, so if you don't know the answer I will just try it our someday and tell you.

Cat 6a cables are not shielded (unless you get the special STP versions), so please use Cat7 cables instead. You are correct that mk.3 cables won't work with some speakers (Beolab 5, 50, 90, 3000, 4500, 5000 and Penta to be precise) so please use the thicker Powerlink mk.2 cables if you want full flexibility over which speakers you can use in the future.
Beolab Transmitter 1/Receiver 1 won't work with Beolab 5 in Powerlink mode, you can link a Receiver 1 to a Beolab 5 via the RCA line input on the speaker, but you will need to use a Beo4 to turn on the speakers manually as you would when using them with a non-B&O system. Hence, this may not suit your needs.

I always thought that Cat6a is shielded by definition, but I was wrong! I totally agree that you should get the best cable, so get Cat7 or Cat6a with preferably S/FTP or similar. I want to try to use the Receiver 1 to supply the MK3 pins on the Beolab 5 (Speaker On/Off, Audio R, Audio L, Signal GND, Data GND) and the existing cable in the wall to supply the missing three pins (Overload, Data, Power up) from the TV. If I get beolab 5 I will try this out and then post it here if it worked!
