I am using my new Horizon TV out of the UK (in France) and have issues accessing BBC i Player using VPN. The provider is Nord VPN.

I can access i player using the same VPN provider and account (which allows simultaneous use on up to 6 devices) on a number of products Mac, and Samsung phone at the same  location.

The Horizon TV lets me download the Nord VPN app from Google Play but when I try to access i Player i get a "02001" error message saying there was a problem loading this page.

Nord VPN have advised this must be an issue with the set up of the TV as I can access i player from the same location on multiple devices using same account.

Any explanation and hopefully fix is greatly appreciated.

There is a new software update for the Horizon. Have you tried to download it? Perhaps it solves the problem.

Good evening. Thank you for the reply. The TV is only a few months old and I have set up automatic software updates.

I have also set up updates automatically. However, I had to download the update (number 8.1.013 released December 2018) yesterday manually. Subsequently the TV also updated apps like Deezer. I would certainly check the menu of your TV and check if the latest update is active.

Thank you for the advice. I will try and download this most recent update.

Downloaded recent December update. Same issue will not access i player. States problem loading.

It is not a "you are out of the UK" error message.

It appears to be how the TV is set up somehow.

Hi

The Android platform on the Horizon has not been updated with the times. Some Android apps no longer support legacy Android TV versions.

I believe the BBC app does work (UK fenced here ), not the Nordvpn 2018 though, which needs 6.0.1 or above. Perhaps an earlier edition is worth searching for.

Beoaus.

Thank you for the advice. I will look at the Nord VPN downloaded app. Unfortunately express VPN which appears the be the VPN of choice to access BBC overseas I am unable to download on the Horizon.

The same I player error (code 0200") has been an issue on Samsung and Sony smart TV's. From reading various forums the fix for those has been a simple factory reset. This does not work with the Horizon.

When living overseas I used a 'smart' DNS service (rather than VPN) from https://www.unblock-us.com/

It worked very well with BBC iPlayer (and most similar 'UK' services) in Germany and Romania, and was very easy to set up on most of my devices.  You can try it for free.

Thank you for the advice. I am away from the TV for a while so will revert in due course with success or otherwise. Thanks again!
