Hi guys, new to the site as I recently bought a Beosound5 which I am delighted with, it's a 1TB version, I am having major problems with the IE on it not resolving the DNS so I can't get to any web addresses, however within a command prompt it resolves URL addresses fine when I ping them. Subsequently it also does not recogonise CDs when they are inserted into the attached CD ripper. Anyway, I thought that I would explore upgrading the XP OS to a newer version if possible as a first step? Has anybody done it? Thanks

The CD ripping service is no longer supported, you can only use the device as a CD player.

I would be surprised if upgrading the OS is possible.  There are custom drivers and also some weird things B&O has done to lock down the system - that is, to replace the disk, you either must have a bit-for-bit copy made before the disk failed, or use a proprietary toolkit to rebuild the disk.  It's not just a standard computer running a standard OS.

Two years ago I installed a Windows 7 Embedded version on a Beomedia 1. It actually did run, but still had some issues. Unfortunally I made a mistake and lost all partitions during reinstalling W7 Embedded to optimize the BM1...……... so there ended the project.

B&O should be ashamed of themselves, the thing was advertised as a CD Ripper.

Totally disgraceful and short sighted.

Beosound 5 Head unit is beautiful, the BeoMaster 5 is an ugly dog of a thing both in looks and functionality.
