Greetings All,

I really would appreciate some advice in regards to the  4 Big Reservoir Caps:

took all 4 out to measure and all showed between 10260uF to 11240uF / ESR between 0.16 to 0.20

I can not see any bulging at all...can you ? A set of 4 Mundorf caps is ready to be installed but I must ask

whether this would be neccessary ?

as always happy to get some advice - thank you.

here is a picture of the original 4 caps.

Yes.

I didn’t in my last BM8000. Enjoying some evening music a few months ago, pop! One blew up. Just got around to replacing it yesterday.

hi All,

in case you can not open the picture - to big a size was chosen...here it is again.

I was really just after some comments from people who had much longer experience with caps, certainly no advice incl warranty.

as you can hopefully see these caps look perfect to my eyes.....do they just explode without any warning signs I wonder ????

anyhow, here is a smaller sized pic

If they measure good they will likely be fine for a while longer. It isn't possible to look at them and know how long. On my personal Beomaster 8000 that I restored eight years ago (before working with Beolover) I left the original display modules and reservoir capacitors in place. That Beomaster still works but the displays finally started to fail. I have reworked the display modules but still have the reservoir capacitors. I have a set of replacements from Beolover ready and waiting should mine start to fail. Having restored quite a number of Beomaster 8000 units for other people since then I always change the reservoir capacitors out due to shipping costs and inconvenience if they should fail in the future. I also prefer to replace them with Beolover's custom 3D printed shells because they are a direct size replacement for the originals. The four reservoir capacitors are kind of a pain to access and replace which is another reason I left my original ones in mine. So if you are doing the Beomaster for yourself and the originals are still good then keep them and deal with them in the future.

Thank you kindly for your comments John, always a pleasure to get a response from you.

well, naturally just looking at them does nothing !

we all know about the buzz-word....”recapping is the first priority” etc.

absolutely right, they were a pain to get out but in order to test them properly I had to unsolder the connecting wires

to get correct readings and also wantetd to inspect them.

The 3D parts from Rudy are great but leave that perhaps when new caps are neccessary as said, I have some new Mundorf caps on stand-by.

so mine will go back in for the time being and I shall attend more pressing issues on that BM8000 🤗

have a relaxing festive season 🙏🍷🤗

Hi,

My two examples still have their original PSU caps as well.

No bulging, and still going strong.

John, you shouldn’t have made public that that display of yours has finally given up the ghost... you’re having me worried sick now...Stick out tongue

Jacques, I think it is better to know that it will likely happen. That way you won't panic if you see a segment go out. :-)

My Beomaster 6000 that I left the originals in has only a few remaining display segments working. I have the replacement modules ready and hope to change them out this weekend. Same for my Beocord 9000.

When that happens John, I’ll ask you or Rudy. One missing segment on my 6000.
