Airplay and NL multi-room

The B&O web-site states that it’s possible to distribute an airplay stream within an NL network.

I tried, but failed. B&O gives an error message that this source is not supported.

Maybe this stopped working with airplay-2 update? If i’d airplay to two speakers and then further distribute, it would anyways be out of sync?

Would this work better with chromecast?

Did you set the right option in the configuation (settings/beolink/sound synchro, mark: "Enable multiroom for Airplay")

 

It does work

Enable the option in the speaker settings in the app.

Works perfectly

Distribution of an AP stream in a NL network has been possible for quite a while now.

My network is pure B&O - personally I prefer the NL distribution of AP and use that from time to time, when streaming from certain apps .

For someone with one or more non B&O AP2 capable devices e.g an ATV4 or a newer Sonos thingy, that he/she also wants to use for multiroom distribution, it may be better to use the AP2 distribution instead of the NL distribution. The same goes for those, who use Apple Music for streaming music.

i also prefer to distribute AP2 streams via NL. i really love the feature that i can “tap” a b&o device to join or also unjoin. i believe that’s an NL feature and i cannot join/unjoin AP2 with a “tap” on the device.

I don’t use apple music, but i’d like to use AP2 and NL in parallel. Casting via AP2 to several b&o and non-b&o devices. and then via “tap” yet again join even more b&o devices over NL. will this work in-sync?

Your initial post has been answered - in that you can distribute AP streams over NL.

Once you have got this working, you'll be able to see how it works with a bit of trial and error.

Well if you are mixing B&O with 3rd party AP2 products then obviously only the B&O devices are NL capable.

If you want to stream using AP2 across different brands, then you'll have to use an ios device to get one B&O device to join. You should then be able to tap an additional B&O device to join.

Personally I keep everything B&O - in my kitchen for example, I tap my BS2 to join at times the TV audio from my lounge, at times an AP stream, at times vinyl being played elsewhere, and so on.

Don't think a 3rd party AP speaker can provide the same flexibility

Your question is not that ‘complex’ - and it indeed was answered in the document that I linked to above.

I don’t use or intent to use both at the same time....so I have no personal experience with that.

The only non-B&O AP2 devices I have are the ATV4’s. These are connected to my tv’s.....that are NL compatible. So no real need for it in my case.

However, I have full confidence when Christian Klit (from B&O) warns against using both!

If you try it out, please tell us about your experience - maybe someone else has tried it already.

Funny enough, my non-b&o devices are actually b&o (but not NL). you’ll laugh, but i just love my (ancient) BS1 and also my beolit 12 (white) too much. Beautiful devices, which AE and CCA allows to bring back in a multi-room environment.

The M3 is surprisingly nice and could serve as a beolit 12 replacement if it had a battery. But nothing serves as a replacement for my old BS1.

So, i either need to keep them out of multi-room or switch to an AP or (even easier) CC setup. but then i lose the “tap” :)
