Hi folks. I'd be grateful for your input.

I am thinking of incorporating a Beosound Moment into my set up but not sure how to do it. I have searched and researched...

At the moment, I have a Beovision 10 as my 'hub'. Connected to it are my Beolab 14.4 speakers. Also connected via Masterlink are my Ouverture and a Beolab 3500 in another room. Apple TV is connected via email HDMI.

My question is how to connect the Moment to the TV. I'm not sure whether I need some form of NL/ML convertor. If I do, how do I get around the problem that the ML input in the TV is currently being used (by the Ouverture and BL3500)?

I know there are other ways to stream music but I like the simplicity of the Moment and the ability to have a standalone music controller.

Thank you for any thoughts/input.

I have a Moment connected to a BeoVision 10 and it works perfectly. You'll have to replace the Overture with the Moment as the Audio Master and use an NL/ML Converter to connect the Moment to your ML network. I like the plug and play simplicity of using an ML Distribution Box to join devices into the ML network.

You can use your Overture in slave mode in another room for local distribution of its sources. However, if you also want to have full access in your ML network of the Ouverture sources, you will need a second NL/ML converter to re-introduce the Ouverture into the ML network. You would then map the Ouverture sources to ML commands via the NL/ML converter that's connected to the Moment.

The Moment has settings in its menu to use the BeoVision 10 via the NL/ML converter for its speakers. You can map the Moment's sources to ML commands via the NL/ML converter and can access those sources from ML link rooms -- such as your BL3500.

Thank you, that is very helpful indeed. I'd still like to retain use of the Ouverture cd player and at the moment I just hit CD on the Beo 4 and it plays through the TV. I am not looking to control this through the Moment. Is there an easy way to achieve this? Just use a Masterlink Distribution box perhaps?

Thanks.

The problem is that you can only have one Audio Master in a traditional ML setup. The NL/ML converter for the Moment must take on this role. The beauty of the NL/ML converters is that you can then add multiple sources that would otherwise need to have the audio master roles, but each would need it's own NL/ML Converter. Each converter creates its own ML network and all of those ML networks become joined via NL.

Here's an idea: you could connect the Ouverture to the Line-In of the NL/ML Converter. You won't have ML control of the Ouverture, but you could still hear it's sources when you select the Line-In of the Nl/ML Converter. You could map the Line-In source as "CD." That way, the the BeoVision 10 would access the Line-In of the converter and the Ouverture could respond to the CD command from your Beo4. However, if you want full multi-room ML control, you need that extra NL/ML Converter to join the Ouverture.

I found that I never use CDs now that I have a Moment. (Actually, I have 2 Moments - one in the living room and another in the bedroom.) Deezer now has CD quality and you can so easily access your music via Deezer or having it ripped to your library.

It just occurred to me that the line-in solution has a drawback: anytime you send ANY audio source commands from the Beo4, your Ouverture will turn on and react to those sources in as well as just the CD source. You wouldn't hear those sources other than CD, but you might find it annoying for the Ouverture to be silently playing the radio or tape in the background. Note that you would need to have the Ouverture in Option 1 to receive IR commands. If you put the Ouverture in Option 0 to disable IR commands, you could still control it physically by pushing its buttons.

Thank you, this is all clear and a massive help! Just one query. If I add the Ouverture via a separate NL convertor, is that convertor connected to the other convertor? I'm just trying to get clear what is plugged into the ML slot on the TV and then how the two converters are connected to each other, and to the TV. It all makes sense, it's just the physical connecting that my simple mind is getting to grips with!

You connect both converters to your home LAN network via cat 7 cable. While the moment could connect to your home network via WiFi, I recommend connecting it too via CAT7 for a more stable connection. Thus, your NL devices all have internet access.

I run a Moment connected to a BV 10 via NL/ML converter. The BV 10 is part of a classical ML network as video master, including a BS 9000 as audio master. In my network there is only one NL/ML converter present. I‘m not really the expert of this topic, but if I remember well, in a NL network an audio master does not exist. For ML Integration I am using ML distributors.

I control the sources in the network with my Beo 4. If I push the CD button, the 9000 starts playing CD. I get the Moment playing with N.Radio and N.Music. Using the B&O app, I have direct control over the Moment. Starting the Moment directly, it uses the speakers of my BV setup.

Being not familiar with the Ouverture, I would guess that it´s not capable of playing N.Music or N.Radio, being an older version to my BS 3000 which does play these sources. But it should be possible to keep the Ouverture as audio master, and steer the Moment separately.

Kindest regards,

Rolf

In your setup, you have the Converter set to the role of "Source Center." That only works with a few newer products. It won't work with the Ouverture.

Thank you both.

Just to be clear, is the following correct (and apologies if this sounds incredibly dim):

1. Connected to the BV10 via ML will be one convertor. That convertor will also be connected to the network via ethernet.

2. Connected to the Ouverture via ML will be the second convertor. That convertor will also be connected to the network.

3. There will be no ML connection between the Ouverture and the BV10.

Is that right? I was wondering where the ML distribution box fits in, if at all.

Thanks.

That's correct. The converter connected to the BeoVision 10 is to establish an NL connection for your existing ML network. Additional converters are used to connect other ML devices that would otherwise need to have the role of Audio Master into the NL networks. By being in the NL network, those additional devices can then be mapped to ML sources for your existing ML network by way of the converter connected to the BeoVision 10.

You have 6 mappable ML audio sources that you can then use for any audio sources. For example, you might map Music (Deezer and your music server) from the Moment to N.MUSIC, map TuneIn from your Moment to N.RADIO, map CD from your Ouverture to CD, map A.TAPE from your Ouverture to A.MEM, and map RADIO from your Ouverture to RADIO. You then have AUX remaining as a source that you could map to either the AUX connection of your Ouverture or the LINE IN connection of the Moment. You could actually map those sources in any way that you want. This is useful when considering using an Essence wall remote. A short press on the Essence remote sends out the RADIO command, and a long press on the Essence remote sends out the CD command. Therefore, you might want to use RADIO and CD for sources that you use the most. In my case, I have RADIO mapped to trigger the MUSIC (Deezer) from my living room Moment and I have CD mapped to trigger MUSIC from my bedroom Moment. I have N.RADIO mapped to trigger a BeoGram that I have connected via a BeoMaster 5500 to another NL/ML converter. I have Essence wall remotes in two bathrooms that each have a BL3500. I can then trigger MUSIC from either the living room Moment or the Bedroom Moment from the bathrooms.

You had mentioned that you have a BL3500 in a link room. That's why I suggested using an ML Distribution Box to connect the ML cable of the BL3500, the ML cable of the Beovision 10, and the ML cable of the BeoLink Converter that connects to the BeoVision 10.

Thank you, extremely valuable information.

The ML cable from my link speaker and the ML cable from my Ouverture are currently joined together via a junction box, and then a single cable goes from the junction box into the back of the TV.

Do you think that, given that the Link Speaker and Ouverture cables are already joined, it will suffice for the cable coming out of the junction box to be plugged into the NL/ML convertor? In other words, will the Moment be able to detect both?

I think you may have missed the point that you can't have 2 devices set as audio master. The Converter connected for the BeoVision to communicate with the Moment must be set as audio master. Therefore, your Ouverture must have its own Converter to get into the setup. The Converter for the Ouverture would not be connected by ML to the TV. It would only be connected by ML to its own Converter, which would connect to NL via CAT7 to your LAN.

O. K., thanks, that´s interesting. It might offer an alternative for Compostela. In this case you could exchange the Ouverture for e. g. a BS 3000 and sell the Ouverture (except you still want to use the tape function), could you? If yes, the advantage could be a cheaper and imho less complex way to integrate the Moment (a used BS 3000 is available below the price of a (used) NL/ML converter, plus the sale of the Ouverture), and you could still use a Beo4 steering the network. Of course you then will not get the additional advantages and functions that you highlighted.

Kindest regards,

Rolf

Thank you guys. I don't use the Tape player on the Ouverture so the option of replacing it with the BS3000 and saving on the cost of a second Convertor is attractive. Much appreciate the help, thank you.

The Ouverture has some attractive qualities that it might be worth holding onto it in addition to getting a BS3000. The Ouverture is one of the few audio devices that can go into "slave" mode for use in another room. Also, the Ouverture has datalink that could be used to control a turntable.
