I'm hoping to buy an 1202 on eBay, which needs a little of this and that done to it. If the seller is right, it just needs a new belt, so I'm wondering where I can best source one of those? It comes with 2 cartridges, (SP14a), but the seller doesn't know the condition of either, so I'm wondering in advance what my cheapest/best option is if they're both worn. Retip? Used cartridge? Soundsmith? I don't have a pile of money to throw at it.

Belts are best obtained from Dillen. SP cartridges have replaceable styluses - the outer shell comes off leaving the cartridge body behind. This means your SP14 could be easily upgraded to an SP12, the best of this range. Axel can help here I imagine. I am sure he can sort out any type of stylus you like - possibly better than an original.

The BG1202 was the best of this range of decks, being based on the BG3000. Its weakness and strength is the same! The platter looks absolutely fantastic but offers poor support for the record! The suspension is not bad but not as good as the slightly later models so will be best if isolated on a wall bracket.

Since I have a solid concrete floor, suspension is not really an issue. Does the poor support for the disc have any actual repercussions?

The bass is not as good is the initial thought - I had a Beogram 2000 which is a 1203 in many ways but with a hinged lid (very useful!)

Very good looking deck though - the pegs do come out which makes cleaning the platter easier but note that the inner row of pegs are shorter than the outer ones - you can find that they have been put in the wrong holes!!
