Hi
This is my first foray into B&O and also in to audio repair. Firstly I understand the Beocenter 2002 is old and was pretty bad by B&O standards but if fixed up it is probably better than my current turntable/speaker set up.
so I paid £50 for the Beocenter with a pair of beovox s30 speakers; it was sold as spairs or repairs. remarkably just about everything works and thankfully the speakers seem in remarkably good condition too. It even has a (none working) mmc 20s cartridge.
the only issue is the tone arm has at some point been pulled off and as a result the thin laqured wires have been ripped from the deck. Also the spindle in which the tonearm pivots has a lot of play in it.
As the tone arm wires are disconnected can anyone enlighten me at to what order they should be soldered to the turntable?
a few of the wires are now too short; does anyone know if it’s possible to disassemble the tone arm and re wire it or would I need to buy a complete tone arm? (There are some on eBay for about £25)
with regard to the tone arm pivot being loose it rotates on some ball bearings; as it is so loose a few bearing have escaped; I can find replacements of these but does anyone know if it is possible to adjust this to reduce the play?
Lastly I would appreciate opinions on the costs involved. I paid £50 with speakers and may have to pay £25 for a tonearm bringing it to £75; do people think that’s sensible for such an old set up? It of course came with a non working cartridge; these can be repaired head in the uk for £120. Now I would guess this is far more than the Beocenter is worth but my thinking is that the cartridge would hold its value on its own should the Beocenter ever pack in or I upgraded to a better system I could transfer this over?
sorry for such a long winded post especially for my first post but I am keen to get involved and should I fix this up then I would really like to then move on to an older Beogram turntable to fix up too.
many thanks
Martyn
so I stripped the tone arm to pieces and believe I can re wire it; I have ordered some enamelled wire to use.
There where a few little mechanical issues too such as someone's previous efforts to fix it meant a few ball bearings were missing (hence my mention of play in the spindle previously).
I just really need help trying to understand this wiring; I get that the two colds go to the same point and there are two hot and an earth but I can not for the life of me understand what the arrows coming off the wires in the diagram to the words 'silent' and 'contact' mean.
Any help in clearing this up for me would be greatly appreciated.
The "Silent contact" is the muting switch. It shorts the two hots to the cold(s) (the three arrows together) when the tonearm is not lowered.

Thanks for that; so there are no additional wires that go to the muting switch? I assume this is downstream of where I re connect the tonearm to?
thanks
