I recently purchased an as-is Beomaster 5000 (this one, USA model) at a Goodwill for $20. Hoping to get some insight into why it won't power up before I go and blindly replace capacitors and other components until it works ;) or seek out a repairman.
It has some signs of life - when it gets plugged in, I can see/hear the muting relay engage, and the fan does a little 'jolt' after getting power. Other interesting thing about the fan is that it spins freely when the Beomaster is powered off, but is harder to turn when it's plugged in. So it seems that power is getting to that part of the control board?
I know the main indicator for power is the red light on the front panel, which doesn't appear on my unit. None of the buttons do anything. The mechanical drop-down door that reveals the controls doesn't operate but can be pulled down manually.
The other relay - closest to the power supply, RL1 - does not change state when getting power, staying in its Normally Closed state. The NC contacts are engaging, verified with multimeter continuity check. RL1 seemed to be the problem for one other person experiencing trouble with Beomaster 5000 but it seems to be OK in my unit.
Thanks in advance for your help. I am new to B&O diagnostics/repair so the assistance is greatly appreciated!
Hi tka1234,
I have the same unit my father gave me. Th only difference is that mine is coming from France and his 220V. I have exactly the symptoms : humming noise coming from the relay, the moving a little bit but nothing else...
I am trying to find a way to repair it but didn't find anything for the time being... Did you find anything on your side ?
Regards,
Emmanuel.
It seems as though the 5 volt standby supply for the microprocessor is u/s?
If there is no red light,it suggest's that the upc is not running,so check there first,as nothing else will work until the control system is up and running.
