Hallo,

  • a  unumgänglich
  • b  nur notwendig bei defekt einzelner Kondensatoren
  • c   Schönheitsreparatur   ?

Bringt ein Austausch hörbare Ergebnisse +/- ?

Hello

I have several Beomaster to restore, currently a Beomaster 1001.

Most still have the original capacitors.

Again and again I read about the exchange of all tantalum and Elkos (Recap).

Is this exchange

     a. essential
     b. only necessary with defective individual capacitors
     c. Beauty repair?

Does an exchange deliver audible results +/-?

Hello

good question!

Elkos recap is essential with defective capacitors or in case you have bad musical performances, as usually happens with output capacitors.

About tantalium after 30-40 years change them is a advisable precaution.

In my opinon it's never a beauty option.

Hope this help

hello marco, thanks for your contribution to this little discussion.

I agree with the defective elkos must be exchanged in each case.

It is also known that tantalum capacitors are very critical. is there a really good replacement?

what about the other elkos?

Hello

in my restoration projects I replaced small value tantalium caps with plastic caps whilst for values above 1 microF replace with elkos.

About other elkos I prefer replace all with new one,  maybe after 30-40 years old elkos has yet right value but maybe fail after few hours.

Have a nice Friday

Hello Wilfried

for my projects I bought from Chinese supplier via EBay, honestly seems goods items and are same as items sell in electronic shops here in Italy.

Have a nice Tuesday.

Hello again,

I found the most of elkos and tantalics in eBay shops, only 2 axial elkos I do'nt found in their value!

That two are Po.Nr. 458 400uF/40V in the power supply and Pos.Nr.  117 160uF/25V on the ZF-Board.

Can I replace these axial elkos with other values of axial elkos?

Have  a nice sunday

Wilfried

Hi,

for the two 4000µf in the powersupply section get two 4700µf Caps. for the 160µF use a 220µF.

Electrolytic capacitors have a high tolerance in production, often -20% / + 50 % Surprise

Hi, Ralph-Marcus

Thanks for this message.

I feared that the special unused values of these caps would be important for the Beomaster 1200's
sound or frequency response.

So the higher capacities do not affect the frequency response, then I can safely install a 470μf for the 400μf !?

In all my restores I have used caps with the next higher value, if the right wasn't available, also when the price for the correct value was far to high, I normally stay with Panasonic or Nichicon and buy through Mouser, if not buying whole sets from Martin (Dillen on this forum). from Martin you can also get the correct lamps, transistors and spare parts.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hello Wilfried

Higher capacitances improve bass frequency response so no problem if you increase them, as I've done on my 901 and 1200.

Have a nice Tuesday
