Hi beopeople,

As a fan of vintage B&O equipment, I was refusing to own anything from this company produced after about middle of 80's. Lets say I haven't wanted to know what the powerlink cable is. Till now Big Smile

However ...

On my wall it is now a white Beovision 8-26 hanging on the B&O original bracket and I must confess it does not look bad :-) And it does not sound bad to...

But, as I said "vintage must bee", I considered to connect my old and beautiful pair of white Beovox P50 to it. I got an advice that the best way to do it is to use a component called Beolink Passive or the older version of it called MLC 2P. I had luck and 3 days ago I found one MCL2P on the market for not much money in working condition (it was said to me "working", only thing I can see on it is the single lamp and it is working (red shines whole the time) if the power is on) with matching power link cable (yes, now I had to know what it is :-)!

Yesterday I tried to accomplish the "mission impossible" and to make this "mega complicated configuration" working. I connected the power link cable to the TV and to the MCL2P, two speakers in to two matching sockets and power on!

After I put on my TV, only sound from a TV-speaker was present. The lamp on the MCL went green (ok, something is happening) but no sound from P50's.  Hmmm... Ok, I thought, something is missing, I need to tell the TV to use this external speaker to. I looked to my BEO4 and didn't find anything. I took the user manual and I found quick the information about:

LIST, LIST, LIST... -> SPEAKER

1, 2 or 3

According to description, the setting "Speaker 1" is for using only TV-speaker, the setting "Speaker 2" for using only external speaker and the setting "Speaker 3" for using both. Yes, but the problem was, I can switch only to "Speaker 1"?!

What could be the problem here?

Is it possible that my BV8 doesn't support external speakers? I can't imagine that... If it is in a manual it must be possible. Or should I have to activate this feature / the external device (MCL2P) first anyhow? If yes, how?

Or could it be that the software version of BV8 (or more probable of the this black box called MCL2P) does not support this configuration?

So you guys with some tips, please shoot.

Thx in advance!

Hi

This configuration should work. I use it myself to drive af Beovox Cona subwoofer of my BeoPlay V1 and before that a BV8 40"

One important thing is the Powerlink cable. It has to be af MK2 (a fully wired cable) or else it won't work.

There has been som threads about that problem before:

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/2424/20908.aspx#20908

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/2481/21433.aspx#21433

But you mention that the MCL2P's light turn green so I'm not sure if the cable is the problem.

Hi madskp,

thank you for the links. I read them and as you said I thing also that it can not be the cable because I got green light on the MCL2P. So the communication between devices works.

The question is why I don't have Speaker 2 and Speaker 3 settings on my TV. By the way I have a beolink 1000 also at home. Which button combination activates Speaker 1/2/3 option on Beolink1000?

Anybody here with this model (BV 8-26)?

The powerlink sockets of older Beovisions like mx 6000 must be activated on the menu. Don't know if it's the same at newer tv's.

Hi,

thank you for a tip.

Maybe that is the problem. Do you know how to activate Powerlink on the old MMX TV?

Hi Beopeople,

I still didn't solve my problem  Sad

Nobody has any idea how to activate "Speaker 2" or "Speaker 3"  settings on my BV8 to be possible to use the passive Beovox speakers via MCL2P?

I am attaching a page from the BV8-26/32 manual that I just downloaded from B&O.

Use your Beo4 to go to the SOUND settings and verify that the CENTRE option is active.

If it is not, I would suspect the powerlink cable not being the correct MARK level.

See THIS thread. It sounds to me like the BV8 doesn't detect the MCL2P, and therefore does not allow you to select speaker 2 or 3. I would suspect a faulty cable, but weird that the MCL2p lights up green. Maybe a cheater plug would help?

Hi guys,

thx for your tips!

@elephant: Unfortunatelly I do not have the CENTER option in the onscreen menu Sad Maybe my TV is the basic model without this option. Or it is the problem with a cable as some of you suggested...

I have to check the configuration with another device via Powerlink connection. I will try it with BM6500 on the weekend. If it still does not work I will check the cable as you suggested.

The weird thing is that I get the green light on the MCL2P. We will see...

@Magnus: thank you for the very helpful links!

If nothing will be working I will consider also the cheater plug.

nice evening!
