I am going try my hand at a beocord 5000 with gooey belts and if I can get it up and running I would like to compare it with some other decks which are currently in my pocession.  Upon inspection both the erase head and playback head seem to have significant lengthwise  rusty colored gouges, probably not helping so I would like to be prepared with the parts on hand to restore the unit closer to a factory spec.  There are two model numbers shown on the 2nd head, H233I and directly below, 0I33 and I am wondering if this is generically  manufactured piece or if any other decks have something with the correct dimensions, impedance etc...  The Erase Head Is Marked 203.

I've replaced belts, capacitors, motors etc... but never encountered a worn head that was both bad and worth replacing before either, so any advice in this department is much appreciated.

Just for clarification....Which Beocord 5000 Type are you working on?

It's a type 4923, one where the whole tape mechanism slides out as a drawer.  The motor is dated 1984.

Okay, those should be easy to get replacement parts for if it turns out you need to go that route.

The record / playback head of at least some Beocord 2000 units is marked H233I (good) over 0I22 (different) if I am not mistaken.  Hmm, is there a way to measure these and compare them?  What do the two codes pertain two?

Still waiting at this time on Dillen to contact me.  In the mean time, would you be so kind as to explain, other than sourcing from another beocord 5000, why it is so easy to get a replacement head so that I can look for a suitable replacement?  Who manufactured these, and where did they go?  Is there a way that I could check into a substitute?
