It is in a sorry state......non the less connected up the variac and, multimeter in series, applied some power. Was quite happy with the load as it came up to full 240vac

Hooked up a couple of speakers and my Ipad to the phono input set on HIGH and powered up once more......life from both speakers

The stereo lamp has failed and as I joggled the front switches I did get the hum and crackle intermittently and the right side channel output was a fair bit lower than the left....so I balanced them up using the pots underneath until they both matched, looks like the machine is more or less functional, had a look inside.

Forty or so years of accumulated dead skin and insect carcasses as you would expect, no signs of previous entry...though the envelope and circuit diagram are missing.

Corrosion has begun around the transformer housing and the power supply smoothing capacitor and output capacitors look very tired

Its certainly worth saving, switches cleaning capacitors changing out and sliders lubricating.....the full hogg including new anodized panels from Frede will be expensive....Alistair, your call

Alistair: I recommend changing the front panels, I had one of my Beolab/BM 5000 playing here for a couple of month before I got the new fronts, and every time I looked at them it irritated me, also if the sliders are yellowed get new ones, it is purely optical but in my opinion worth it. Craig love your work.

Idle current on both channels is coming in at 4.5mV.....so it appears she has survived being pulled apart and reassembled.
